| As with most debates there are fans on here that take one side and visa versa, this is good. I understand that Solomona has the right to earn more money if presented with the opportunity but 'come on' how can any supporter of any club whatever sport criticise a club for making a rugby based decision. Cas have in the past sold players to stay in business and not take the option of screwing everybody by going into administration - (Clarke) for example.
It was clear from day one what was happening here but because of how it is playing out now, a player being persuaded to retire from the game for money effects every RL club, both in SL and NRL. Every club needs to stand up and lend their support to the RFL to fight this for the good of the game.
Could I quit my phone contract to go on another network and save money.

This isn't the same though. What Solomona has done would be like going from a phone to a walkie-talkie. What you have put here would be like going from club to club not one sport to another.

| But if one walks out on a phone contract in favour of a walkie talkie then the phone company will take action to recover the money owed for the remainder of the contract, no?

| If he has two years left on his contract and say he gets paid £100,000 each year then presumably he would have to pay them £200,000 to buy out the rest of his contract (or Sale do it for him) in order to leave Cas. In most employment contracts you need to give a period of notice and there may be other conditions attached. However, this is were a lot of clubs who are run on fine margins have problems. If for example, he was due a bonus and it wasn't paid on time, then he can get out of the contract. It might be that his lawyer has looked over his contract and feels that he can get out of it easily.
It does seem odd that Sale don't just offer to buy out his contract. Because you would think that if that happened Cas are on to a loser. They can't keep an unhappy player who is being offered say three times his current salary to play another sport.
I wonder how legally binding most of these contracts are anyway. Take the case of Kevin Larroyer at Hull KR. It seems wrong that they can unilaterally cancel a two year contract because they get relegated.

I get the point. Difference is, this isn't phones. When Jarryd Hayne left Parramatta to go play NFL did San Francisco pay Parramatta anything?

| If he retires then he isnt in breach of contract. Imagine if another player retired and then went to work as a joiner etc... the company who employed them wouldnt be liable for anything

Imagine what Sale would say if Josh "retired" from Union and came back to us.

Sonny Bill Williams when he left Bulldogs?
Im sure Was can hold his registration and then if he comes back to League whoever signs him will be liable. Just like how Roosters had to pay Bulldogs to sign SBW.

| Quote MattyB="MattyB"£300k for an import? Cas should have taken the money and ran. After the season he's just had it was quite clear that he was never going to stay with them for too long. Reminds me of when Tuigamala went back to Union from us, we were never going to have the funds to keep him. Imports don't bother me so much, more so when it's young lads through our development and have been lured away (Sam, Joe Burgess, Charnley, rumours on Williams.....etc).'"
Tuigamala didn't want to leave and was quite happy at Wigan. The club got a silly offer for him and due to the financial situation the club found itself in at the time cashed in. Had the club not been in trouble I doubt they would have sold.
