I don't think Tierney is good enough at FB either. He's got good pace and is a decent finisher which makes him a good back up option on the wing.

He's proving himself to be a good winger Tierney but he's awful as an attacking full back. He's a good athlete but his basic skills with ball in hand are very poor and he doesn't get involved enough. We should have put Sarginson at full back on Friday and he should be first choice back up whenever Sam isn't available.

I think it was a difficult choice on Friday. If Sarginson had played full back who would have played centre? We didn't even know if Charnley would pass the late fitness test so it might have been a case of no choice for SW.

If Gelling was fit he'd play and so would Gildart for me. That would leave Sarginson to cover FB and Tierney to cover wing spots if necessary.

If we ever get anywhere near a full strength squad it's a real embarrassment of riches. With Sarginson leaving, I still think we're a top class 3/4 short of having our squad spot on.

Tomkins should stay at FB for the time being. Williams is a good youngster but he's not an organising half yet. I know Smith has had his critics but for me FB Tomkins, SO Williams SH Smith is far better than FB Sarg SO Tomkins and SH Williams. Sam at FB and Particularly Smith at SH allow Williams the freedom to play rather than organising the side.

Yeah, I think I agree with that, especially as Sam can take on some of the long kicking from full-back. It's so handy to have a kicking full-back, giving you options and keeping defenders guessing, like (say) Lachlan Coote at the Cowboys.

Sam could make it work but Im certain full back is his best position.

Next season we have (so far if no more moves) Smith, Williams, Tommy L, Shorrocks and Powell all half-backs - plus possibly Hampshire back as well (although I suspect that will not happen). More than enough ability/cover there so there is no need to move Sam to HB as he poses a lot of threat from FB as he can dictate when to move into the line and where.

It will always be an option to move Sam if necessary (probably in game due to injury) but I do not see any merit in moving him - and who would play FB, next season Sarginson won't be here and Tierney has doubts over his attacking game so that would weaken the team anyway moving Sam.

So many times on Friday Tierney just wasn't there when we were shifting it wide. Hopefully Charnley's ban will force Wane's hand and play Sarge at fullback and Tierney on the wing, where he was excellent against Wakey. Hopefully Sam is back though of course, anyone know what's happening with his injury?
