Under the rule it was a try because the ref gave a try on field but then there wasn't sufficient evidence to over turn it in the eyes of the VR. However in my view there wasn't sufficient evidence that it was a try. I immediately said no try and having watched it several times I haven't changed my view. If the on-field ref had given no try then there is no way that the VR would have given it. I will still unashamedly take it given that the first Cas try was from a clear forward pass. However I do wonder if the rule needs tweaking. I understand why it was changed but in some cases maybe the ref can call a 'don't know' try and hand it to the VR for a decision one way or the other. I know it is difficult because we would have to guard against the on field ref. Using it too often. Maybe he can only use it once in a game? Or maybe each team's captain can have one challenge call per game which would force a VR decision?

No. The on-field ref has to say one way or the other even if he genuinely doesn't know. His view then effectively restricts what the VR can do. We are effectively asking the on-field ref to guess! |

If the ref is unsure then he should not be made to make a decision either way and hand it straight to the VT, scrap this finger tip control crap and get back to a full hand with downward pressure, then we don't have all the unsurety.
OK Wigan won convincingly, but what if it was a close game and that dodgy Try was the 78th minute match winner for either side? Very unfair rule and should be changed asap!
