Quote: Cruncher "Increasingly, Hampshire comes over as one of those kids who certain fans have invested so much hope in that they won't see what's happening right under their noses. You're quite right in that two SL coaches have now formed an opinion that he isn't a halfback. I personally think he could have been given more opportunities at 6, but ultimately we have to go with the experts.
The big danger now is that he ends up drifting down through the game, still looking for that starting berth at stand-off, until he finishes up nowhere of consequence. Whoever gave him the idea that he must demand to play at 6 if he isn't selected there did him no favours. Young players cannot do that, and do not enamour themselves to coaches or chairmen if they try.'"
Correct. Look at John Bateman who seems to be willing to play anywhere just to get a game. And wherever he's played he's been our best player, whether it be 3,4,11,12 or 13. I dare say he'd do a more than useful job at hooker if asked.
I still think there is a future for Ryan at Wigan if he knuckles down, with Sarge leaving and maybe a move to the halves for Sam. (But the next Shaun Edwards he ain't - who never bothered about playing fullback either)
