| Manfredi is deceptively quick with his long legs ( à la Pat Richards but faster). I have watched back the run which led to the Bateman try and between just after the Wigan 20 metre line and half way he really motors once he has broken through a few tackles. He then slows down as the cover defence comes across. Allied to his huge strength he is really turning into a top winger.
Sarginson (for all his faults) was motoring as well and was at Manfredi's side by the half way line (indeed, Manfredi might well have passed inside to him). All this bodes very well for the coming months as the pitches firm up. If Charnley consistently maintains the pace and enthusiasm he did against Leeds, Wigan will have a back 3 to rank against any in Super League. And Sam is yet to return....
I wonder whether SW would ever countenance playing Sam at 6 (and dare I say it, play George at 7 and Smith as bench 9) or is it nailed on that Sam will return as full back?

Good to see you joined this forum to post that rubbish.
Apart from the odd one, most Wigan fans have praised Widnes last night and their fantastic start to the season.
I for one hope you keep it up.

| Quote: Grimmy "Well done Widnes, the better side won. We are worse thsn average at 7 and 9. I'd say Smith had a shocker but it's more of a shock to me that he has had a few decent games recently, way out if his depth. I'm not too annoyed about the missed conversions because you can't expect him to nail all three, but his play kicking was terrible all night, he does bugger all ball in hand it off with a knock on at the end when we could have nabbed a draw.'"
Good on you Grimmy, must make it a little harder when the better of the 2 scrum halfs came from your academy. Joe Mellor has been outstanding this season. Teams still think everything we do is through Brown so he has the freedom Kev doesn't.

| Widnes were good for the win and that's that. Wigan's 5 from 5 was papering over the cracks a bit for me. We could easily have lost against Huddersfield, Salford and Hull and the opening game of the season in the mud against Catalan could have gone either way. We won those games and the lads deserve credit for playing the full 80 minutes.
We are very limited in attack and Smith offers nothing. One good game a season is not acceptable and I can't believe we can't attract a better scrum half to the club. Powell has been thrust in full time because of MM's injury but again, just isn't up to the task. Logan was a better option at 9 although he has his faults.
We have a lot of quality on the sidelines in ST, JT, MM and Williams but we desperately need to get better in possession.

| From an outsiders point of view last year when you were in dire need of a centre I think Wigan missed a big trick not going for Runciman, very astute signing for me

| I quite fancied us, Widnes, to turn you over last night as I have been disappointed with your attacking play, when you get within 30m of the line from what I have seen so far, and last night followed suit.
You scored two tries from our mistakes, which were well taken tries, but other than that for all the pressure and possession you had you just weren't clinical enough again.
You definitely aren't the same side without Williams and I think Joel Tomkins is your biggest threat when the ball goes wide.
We're living the dream at the moment so will cherish a long awaited victory like last nights, but can still see it being yourselves and Wire in the Final.
Good luck for the rest of the season, apart from the return fixture obviously.
