Although it is possibly unfair to judge on one game, if this was Ryan Hampshire trying to make his mark I would hate to see him in his comfort zone! Very poor today, no threat from his passing or running game. Completely anonymous in the first half and predictable in the second when he had obviously been told to get more involved at half time.
I can't see the potential for him to become a first-choice super league half-back.
On another note, I heard today we have agreed a deal for Justin Carney to join Wigan in 2017 after his year on loan at Salford. I just hope we haven't taken Hampshire in exchange!'"
Difficult to judge having not seen the game, but all last season I was starting to wonder if Hampshire is going to be one of these kids who basically fail to make the final step up. We've seen so many of them before, and so often they are the ones who were raved about as juniors.
There are all kinds of reasons why Hampshire may not be making the impact everyone expected (and they may not all be his fault - maybe none of them are!) - but several of his contemporaries from that strong youth team are now settling nicely into first team life while Ryan is increasingly spoken of only as an afterthought. If he doesn't rip it at Cas it's very difficult to see what kind of future there is for him at Wigan.
