Personally I think he is the best centre at the club and it wasn't that long ago there was uproar on here that he wasn't in the England squad. I didn't think he was international standard personally but many on here did. However like whenever anyone dares to leave our club people soon pretend said player is rubbish. You only have to look at the laughable charnley thread a few months ago when he was rumoured to be leaving as evidence.

No one is saying he is rubbish, just that he's the third best centre at the club and that it's probably for the best all round that he'll be at a club where he gets a spot every week. Let's be honest, I seriously doubt Saints, Leeds or Warrington will have been chasing his signature

You forgot to add this is all in your opinion which you try to dress up as fact. Obviously in many peoples eyes you are wrong and most people I know think he is the best centre at the club and by some distance. I would also much rather base my opinion on the last couple of years rather than the last couple of months when Gelling only got a game after Goulding told the club he wouldnt be staying, strange that. You have not got a clue who was chasing his signature either and I believe that Saints were indeed chasing his signature but he didnt even entertain the idea. If you think that Goulding wouldnt have been in demand you are living in lala land.

I've never been critical of Goulding until this season, in fact I was a big fan of his and was saying he should have been in the England squad in 2012. I'm not entirely confident that Gelling/Sarginson/Thornley provides enough quality at centre but I've been equally unimpressed with Daz this year, he looks unfit and those stats that Rogues has posted are pretty abysmal. I wouldn't have been on here screaming that he should go but now that it's been confirmed he's off I can see where the coaching staff are coming from.

True but I doubt either of those said clubs would want to sign gelling or sarginson either and therein lies the point. Goulding is the only out and out centre we have. I can't see gelling or sarge doing a grubber play like goulding did on the biggest stage of all to put charnley away and put us in front. That type of natural centre play comes from playing the position for a number of years. This is no way a dig at gelling or sarge who I think have done a reasonable job stepping in. Gildart looks like he has potential but is at least a year or two off first team level yet. If we're not going to sign anyone I think this leaves us weaker in an already weak position.

Easily the best centre at the club, let him play without injury and watch him get Charnley away again and again and again, like he has done for the last 2 years.

Rubbish, Goulding has been average for most of his Wigan career, he had a few moments of being above average but that's it.

Goulding might be average for a centre, but centre is a specialist position and we haven't had a decent centre since George Carmont. There is a dearth of centres in the British game today anyway, so unless we have a decent centre 'in the pipeline' it can't be a good thing to lose an half decent centre can it ?

So what? He still isn't good enough to play centre for Wigan on a regular basis. He has been a cheap option as he came through the system. Now he wants more cash he's on his way.

Not too convinced by Gelling or Sarginson but at least they show desire and Thornley is better.

Well Thornely can't play both sides of the pitch at once so despite the fact you're not convinced by the three other players mentioned as his potential replacement you are happy to see him leave thus leaving the side weaker. Sound logic that.
