You are wishing someone good luck for breaking the clearly stated rules of the competition?

| Quote Katrina="Katrina"I remember him publicly stating that he will break the salary cap, and will just take the punishments on the chin. Good on him really, it's about time someone made a stand. It really irks me that we got done for 'going against the spirit of the cap' when other clubs have since done the exact same thing with no punishment.
We should want rich investors to come into RL and project a bit of interest into the game. We should want the very best players to want to come and play here and get paid what they deserve without having to fly half way round the world to get it or leave and play Rugby Union. OK there's always got to be some kind of limit to what is spent, if it was like football then it'd just completely spiral out of control. But we're not even in line with inflation, let alone in line with our nearest competitors in the NRL and RU.
Then again it could be argued that if the cap was raised then rich investors would still break it and spend more and want the cap raising again etc etc etc.'"
Where are all of these rich investors? Surely they would buy up the teams now 'on the cheap' and and run them within the confides of the restricted salary cap (and run them below market value)? Surely that is what a 'rationale' businessmen would do.

| It's in Wigan's interests NOT to raise the cap. With the volumes of academy products coming through on an annual basis Wigan are well placed to be 'in the running' for silverware year on year as we have an advantage over the majority of SL clubs who would need to buy-in players from both the UK and Overseas.
It's very doubtful that IF the cap was raised/abolished that IL would then go out and plunder the NRL market for top quality signings (unlike Koukash & Moran).
I would love a scenario somewhere in between.
2-3 top quality NRL players, the rest made up of Academy lads and UK players (such as Taylor, Dudson & Flower.

| Quote Deano G="Deano G"I'd love Koukash to bring a court case on the SC. Given the abject failure of the SC to achieve its objectives and the massive downward pressure on real term wages that it has exerted, the chances of the SC being held to be a reasonable (and therefore lawful) restraint of trade don't look good.... '"
The SC may be lots of things but a restraint of trade isn't one of them.

| Still think the SC should have been reviewed by now just for inflation and adjustment.
When it comes down to it, the better the TV deal, the more money the clubs should get and the higher the SC should be, but that would rest on good TV deals....

The thing is, they let the clubs vote for it. The status quo suits the top clubs, they are where they want to be so paying more is no advantage to them. The bottom clubs usually can't afford to pay more than they are, so the ability to pay more is no advantage, plus the gap between them and the rich clubs will increase because they'll have less relative spending power. The only way any club will want to raise the salary cap is if they can afford to pay more, and aren't one of the top clubs. Who does that leave? Salford. Maybe Hull FC too

| Personally I like the bloke, I wasn't sure at first but now he seems to of calmed down a little. He said in a radio interview that he would break the cap and use methods that others were using to do so. What those methods are we can all speculate.
I think it is time to scrap the cap completely. I'd like to see it replaced with a requirement for all clubs to at least break even over each licence period. Whether the income comes from gate receipts, sponsorship or a simple gift from the owner would be irrelevant but it can't come for loans saddling teams with debt. There are many rich businessmen out there who can't afford football clubs. Let's try and get them interested in RL. The good Dr must have many contacts and could be the start of a revolution.

Would we even have enough teams to form a league if that happened? Others on here will know more about the club's finances than me but I thought most made a loss and relied on sugar daddies?
