I was there for the original "water splash final" Wakefield V Leeds (1968 I think) which became known as the Don Fox final for his missed conversion under the sticks in the last min.
Half an hour before the match I came out of the Green Man Pub in bright weather, then during the match the heavens opened. I have never seen as much water on a pitch in my life, it put so much rain down in a short space of time the pitch just could not drain.
