| A very strange day of mixed emotions for me.
I was working up in Scotland at the time, had booked tickets and a minibus to take us all down to the game.
On the Monday morning prior to the game I had flown up to Scotland and arrived on site at around 9:30 a.m. At around 10 a.m I got a phone call from my wife to tell me that my uncle had died. He had stayed up on the Sunday night to watch the great snooker final between Dennis Taylor and Steve Davies, then gone to bed, and had a suspected heart attack.
Then on Tuesday afternoon my wife phoned to say that the funeral was on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. so I had to cancel the mini bus. Wigan were great and took the tickets back, giving me a full refund.
So Saturday came and we went to the funeral, had a couple of beers and then we went back to our house to watch the game.
I went up to Pemberton at night to meet up with with friends who had been to the game and finished up having a long night.
It's certainly a day/week I will never forget.

| After every loss for the following few years we watched THAT match when we got home and it made things better. Still does!

| 1) My first ever Wembley - Going in to Wigan to get the coach at the old gas showrooms and seeing everyone decked out in cherry and white.
2) Seeing the Hull coaches merging onto the M1 and exchanging friendly gestures!
3) Getting my first glimpse of the twin towers
4) Getting almost crushed, covered in beer and carried forward every time we scored - never known anything like it at a rugby match.
5) Looking at my watch and praying for the hooter in the dying seconds - I'm still convinced that we would have lost had the game gone on for another couple of minutes.
This was the game that kick started my love for Wigan rugby league at the age of 14. I watched the video more times than I care to remember and knew the commentary almost off by heart.

| Big Westy stood next to the trophy signing autographs in John Menzies.
I'm not sure in which order it was but I remember the football team winning a cup final, probably the autoglass trophty, then the rugby team won the CC and then the start of the 10 years of domination. I wonder if that could happen again.....I'm sure the football team could qualify for the equivalent of the autoglass trophy the season after this
