Quote: Lingfield Warrior "But aren't we told that winning the Cup matters far more than winning the League? Am so confused, I don't know what to think any more.
I think the whole sport is in deep trouble because of the lack of star quality in the competition. We were wrong to go with the lowest common denominator approach when we went with a low cap to make the league competitive. We now can neither attract nor keep any world class players for any length of time. When Sam leaves, is there anyone in the league who would make you pay to watch? Hard to think of one.
Having grown up watching Kenny, Ella and Ellery, I can't see How we will ever see their like again, save when the NRLers tour.
In years to come we may look back at the days the Cup attracted as many as 5,000 to a semi.'"
It was always wrong to go with a salary cap that was brought in to basically keep the 'have nots' happy. We must be the only sport that lets the clubs that bring the least to the table get their own way. I'm not saying we shouldn't have a cap but it should always have been worked on a percentage of a clubs income to encourage clubs to go out and work hard and bringing funds in to the clubs and the game.
We run the sport like a fussy primary school sports day at the minute where all the kids have to hold hands and cross the finish line together so none of the fat kids get upset.
