Quote: A ball "Does anyone know in what match Gary Connolly (for GB) made a thunderous tackle on Paul Sironen (Australia) on about the GB 10m line.
I think it was GB v Australia first test at Wembley 1994. But could be wrong (that was the test that Davies rounded Mullins). It was around that time.
I do know that Colin Welland described it the next day in the Guardian as 'Gary Connolly threw his mothers council house at Paul Sironen' .
And importantly, does anyone have a link to it from a well known web site?
It was one of the best tackles I've seen and want to show my son.'"
I can't remember that incident, but what I do remember is Barrie Mac giving Sironen an over the top very bad tackle in a Wigan v Australia match when Wigan where in their pomp.
It was late 80s early 90s (I could check for the date if wanted) and this match had been built up as the 4th test, with Wigan parading all the old greats before the match.
They had a stage on the pitch with a Tina Turner sound alike belting out 'Simply the Best'
which at the time was the Aussie signature tune played at their grand finals.
It was a tremendous build up to a match. The Aussies won by the way.
