| Although you don't judge wingers on metres made 242m is a great effort if Barrie was right on super league full-time and it reflects the amount of work he did.

Having watched Matty Russell tonight looking quite accomplished in a strange team, it will be interesting to see how both players develop.'"
Why though? Matty Russell ain't a winger, and Gelling ain't a FB. Why don't we just start comparing Sam to Pat? Totally different skill set.

but this is where Gelling impresses, because he isnt a winger. he's a centre playing out of position. therefore, to look good in a strange position, with new team mates and in a new country in good.
from what i have seen, he has all of the atributes to be a decent george replacement. in fact, with his ability to hold the ball in one hand, his wingman should look forward to a few offloads.
so long as he gets his attitude correct, i feel that he will be a good buy.

| I like a lot of what Gelling does but he needs to improve his fitness if he is going to be a full-time winger. Obviousl;y playing regularly will improve that but I think quite a few of the disallowed tries he's had in the last few two games were mistakes made due to tiredness, the second one against KR in particular

I agree with this.
The next post talks about him being a full time winger. Well, he isn't going to be a full time winger, he is going to be a full time centre but not this season!

| at least 100m saved the forwards having to do the work, with efforts like that it means that Hock and Co. should have more in the tank to make a bigger impact. let's hope he can do the same this Saturday

He got the MOTM in League Express.
I thought he looked pretty dangerous with ball in hand.

I think modern-day wingers have that responsibility of taking the ball forward early in the tackle count to take some of the pressure off the forwards, so I think some attention should be made for the amount of metres a winger makes. 242 metres from 24 carries is outstanding work. That's the kind of effort and commitment we wanted from Karl Pryce with his big frame but we didn't get it. You can bet Shaun Wane instructed Gelling to carry that ball every set and by the looks of thing he adhered to those words!
Playing on the wing looks a little unnatural for Gelling - he isn't a natural finisher. But he is strong, powerful, athletic, can find an offload and looks like he has some pace too. He reminds in a sense of Joel Tomkins in that respect. He had all those attributes. This injury to Pat could be a blessing in disguise for Anthony Gelling & to Wigan because we'll start to see more and more each week just what this lad is capable of.
So far he strikes me as a back row forward playing on the wing.

| I must admit to some initial misgivings about signing an overseas player who is unproven rather than give a Brit a chance. Even having this conversation proves what high standards we now set as a club, and once he signed he gets my full backing. I can see the reasoning for signing him as there aren't many local lads with his physique which is that of a natural raw boned centre, and we can't be paying him much on his current contract.

| I honestly think given time, the wing could be perfect for him. His size will make him very dangerous in the air, good pace, great to see
