Quote: CyberPieMan "Making this the main holiday this year & I'm driving down & taking my time about it. Setting off Tuesday & getting to Perpignan on the Thursday. Then either driving over to Montpellier, or if the rumours are correct & the kick-off is moved to 3pm, going on the train.
Hotels on the way down (and back) are between £30 & £50 per night & I'm staying in the Hotel de France in the Centre of Perpignan for 7 nights for a little over £400.
Taking fuel and ferry into account I'll have the thick end of a fortnight's holiday for around £700.
How the Dickens the official packages justify £430 for 3 days is beyond me but if you're prepared to go a bit square eyed staring at a computer for a couple of hours & can read a map & know how far you want between stops then it's worth the initial hassle.
Use a cheap hotel chain like Ibis for the motels & I checked 3 or 4 "review" sites before settling on the hotel in Perpignan.
I'm sure you could get down to Montpellier on the plane & into a cheap B&B for less, but unless you're staying in one place (or simply attending the game) you'll need to hire a car to get around & I found that that worked out just as expensive as taking mine on the ferry & driving down & back (plus not only would you be on the wrong side of the road, you're on the wrong side of the car too).'"
I'm doing something similar but it's going to cost a lot more than £700! How much have you budgeted for fuel? We're reckoning it'll cost us a good £400.
We're setting off on the Thursday, stopping for a night near Paris, then making our way down to Montpellier on Firday. Then we're stopping off in Paris on Monday and Tuesday to go to Eurodisney

Gonna cost about £1500 between 2 of us once everything is added up
