We stayed in an Apart-Hotel in Montpelier last year for a couple of nights on the way to Perpignan. Very cheap and great value. Tram stop outside and bus to the beach round the corner. If anyone is interested I'll post the details.
We've booked a four night trip to Montpellier by train after doing the same last year, which worked really well:
- Return train to London (2 hrs) £30
- Return Eurostar to Paris (2 hrs 20) £69
- Return train Paris-Montpellier (3 hrs 20) 60 euros
We're stopping in a 4-bed apartment in Montpellier - Citadines ApartHotel, central and right next to a tram stop, at £20 per person, per night, on Friday and Saturday, breaking the journey in Paris on the Thursday and Sunday nights to do some sightseeing, that will be about £25 per head each night.
Works out as a really good deal for the length of time we're away, and with the timing of this trip, we've got the added bonus of being able to go to the French Open tennis in Paris. The hotel fees are probably the same now as when we booked, but I'd expect the trains (especially within France) to have gone up since we booked 6 weeks ago.
