Heroic Fev give mighty Wigan a scare

Wigan were runaway favourites for this one but heroic Featherstone gave their Super league opponents one mighty scare before the Warriors could get their name in the hat for the next round of the Challenge Cup.

Only a second-half 36-point comeback secured the win for the Warriors, who fielded only Sam Tomkins to make the game fairer for their lower league opposition.

Tomkins said: "I want to apologise to the Wigan fans for the first half. But once my team coach was fixed and I was able to get off the motorway and to the stadium for the second half things were looking up."

In that case, why don't we also make a rule only allowing SL teams to field a team of the same value to their Championship opponents? Forget the nationality issue. If Wigan can't field Hock, Tomkins, Mossop, Farrell etc, then you'll have a real chance.

In fact, why don't we go the whole hog and prevent the SL side from training in their own expensively-built faciltiies in the weeks leading up to the game? Why don't we make them train on a local school pitch?

Why don't we also deprive them of all SL-standard training staff, including head-coach, conditioner, etc?

Why don't we pour twenty pints of ale down their gullets the night before, and make them eat fish and chips and MacDonalds all week? Then we'll have a really, really level playing field.

Do you really want to go on with this?

I didn't see you lot offering not to play your full time players and ex SL players against Hunslet Old Boys when you were quite happy to put 86 past them.

So... Fev play in a league which has a different overseas player rule from the SL and some of their fans want to impose that rule on Wigan as a SL team...?

Does that mean we have to cut our players' pay the week before the game down to what we would pay them if they were subject to the SC that applies to Fev?

If they were playing amateurs then presumably Featherstone's players didn't get a match fee, salary that week or other payment for their services - that would be fair.

But they played the game UNDER THE SAME RULES.



Because none of this is the point people are making.

Because it is a legitimate point people are making, the only argument people can find is to be facetious.

Make a proper argument against it and behave like an adult or don't bother or you will carry on making yourself look stupid.

No just the same rules on overseas players, you already have all the advantages under the sun do you want us to play with 1 arm tied behind our backs as well. Were allowed 1 you 5 its plain wrong

The day your team withdraws all its professionals when you play a bunch of amateurs in the Cup is the day you can lecture us.

If you actually did that, I applaud you. If you didn't, the conversation appears to be over.

No it doesn't. That's not for you to decide.

How can a team withdraw all of it's professionals when they play an amateur team? They wouldn't have any players.

There is nothing in the rules stopping Old Boys playing full time pros though is there, there is however a rule that says we can only play 1 overseas player
