| Quote: Wigan28/Leeds18 Andy "Or maybe as I've stated earlier it may have been agreed that he could play the odd exhibition game of RU to supplement his income outside the salary cap in order for us to be able to afford to keep him in RL. As much as it may be unpalatable, playing on Saturday is likely to raise his profile much more than any game of RL he's played and therefore increase his sponsorship opportunities with some "blue chip" companies, again as a means of keeping him in RL for the moment.
Maybe a bit "left field" for some to take on-board no doubt, or maybe not useful because of the agendas some have on here.'" I've seen quotes from Sam saying his agent approached him during the Four Nations with this opportunity, after his contract was signed.
We have to be realistic, even in RL he only broke out as a potential superstart 18 months back, the wider sporting world will have known little about him. As soon as he steps onto the Twickenham field that attention will be on him, especially if he puts in a great performance, if it's good enough to attract Blue Chip sponsors, those sponsors will want to see him playing in Union internationals and the European Cup, not a Friday night game away against Wakefield.
I see talk about the NRL being an alternative, personally I see this as being a less and less attractive proposition for UK RL players, sure they can earn decent money, but the UK/European market is where the biggest money is earned, not just wages but sponsorship. Then consider profile, I'm sure there are at least a handful of Aussie Rules stars with UK roots, yet we know zero about them, the NRL is slightly different as RL has a foothold in this country, but even so, if a UK player goes to the NRL he will not be heard or seen again in the UK apart from the specialist RL press. While us mere mortals wil only look at the six figure salaries and say who cares, if your a UK sportsman at the top of your game, you want the opportunity to be recognised by your fellow countrymen, up there with the footballers, cricketers, golfers, motor racing drivers, Olympic athletes, not just an annoymous rich guy.
While it's not for good reasons, you only need see how Union has dominated the sporting talk these past few days, England loseonce again to Australia in the Four Nations and it's given as much (or little) coverage as a typical SL game, no inquiary, no media fallout, just another loss, carry on as normal.

Over on the poor side of the pennines, we are all very humble and equally grateful to our "masters" over the other side.
We of course shouldn't be in SL because you deem us unworthy.
I had previously understood that we remained in SL "on merit" and although I dont deny that, but for the Crusaders demise we perhaps wouldn't be, we are still here fighting our corner and we will be somewhat stronger next seson. We may even have had the nod on a new ground, which would have been well on the way, but for some local government hassles.
Although you are slightly arrogant and a little dismissive towards other clubs, a league for one team has yet to be invented.
You could always speed up the transfer to union and join tha Rah Rah's.'"
I dont undertand why there is so much "hassle" for you to develop your ground? I support a football team called Crewe in League 2 of the football league. They overhauled one of their stands a few years back and it took them only 12 months from idea to completion! I realise that is only one stand but why can such a low down football team manage to do that but a supposedly top tier RL side be incapable? I agree completely with the sentiments that you are holding back SL. I actually tried to stick up for you on your own board last year and wished you all the best in attempting to get your new stadium off the ground and was attacked with a load of self righteous bile just because I was a Wigan fan tbh it was to the level which makes Leeds fans look humble and it wasn't by 1 it was by multiple fans. I no longer have time for your team holding back our League and would rather see the league drop to 10 teams and expand slowly over 10-20 years than see you, and to some small extent but nowhere near the level of you at the minute, castleford hold us back for the next 3 years.

The sport is run democratically by the RFL with member clubs each receiving votes on how the game is governed.
Even our humble little club doesn't agree with everything, however, we abide by the decisions that are made by the majority.
10 clubs in the league, would mean playing each other 3 times, plus cup matches and play off games, I know that this happens to some extent with the magic weekend, but there is a limit to just how many times that clubs wish to play each other.
As stated in previous posts, I have no issue with your club, but it seems that anyone that doesnt share your opinion isn't entitled to an opinion ??
Therefore, I will bid you farewell and leave you to your collective back slapping and bullying
