Quote: Geoff "I think people are missing the point with the home v away attendances for "Big Ones". Increasing away support helps a bit, of course, but it's the increase in home support that is crucial, not just for that one game, but hopefully for future games. The away supporters are only here once a year (in League games), but if just a percentage of the "extra" home support turns up more often, that will have a massive effect.
Sure, Hudds support increased by 700 or so, but home support was up by around 5,000 on last year, and hopefully a good proportion of them will be encouraged to come more often, and maybe even buy a season ticket, or bring more friends along. That has to be the main aim of the "Big One" concept.'"
That's exactly what Lenagan said at the fans forum. Great if the away support increases but first and foremost it's a marketing tactic to increase home support firstly for that game and secondly hopefully to get an increase in regular attendance. Well part one accomplished by something like 5k, part two will become apparent in the future.
Well done to the marketing team
