| I have followed wigan since 1944. There were no sch things as songs to show support, replica shirts would never have been considered. At cupties supporters might wear a cherry and white scarf ( knitted by a loved one) or if you were in the money a rosette. HAPPY DAYS

| i remember as recently as 1980-1981 my ma having to sew a rangers badge on my wee rangers top bought as a package.. great days!
As for watching Rugby or Football in the 40's, they were working mens games and all the gents were classy and wore flatcaps and puffed on woodbines incessantly, not like today were everyone wears a replica strip.
As my old man says, too many wimmen and kids at games now eating hotdogs and drinking milkshakes, in my day we had a pish down a rolled up newspaper (supporting Clyde its a wonder he had to) ... Quite

Oh the joy's of football at Shawfield on a wet Wednesday night , standing 60 yards from the pitch and with so many floodlights around the dug track you couldn't see a bloody thing , just as well really the Jam Tarts couldn't buy a win there in my time. Now it becomes clear why you opted for Ibrox Dave . Rolled up newspapers into McEwans Export tins remenber it well .That where the saying "never accept a warm open tin of beer at a football match" originates from .
Regards , EW

| Quote Captain13="Captain13"Shawfield is good for Greyhounds, Speedway and Monster truck shows now sadly since 1986, and i remember those tinnies of tinnints folk took to the game in the late 70's that had a dolly bird on the can
sadly the 1980 scottish cup final put paid to ale at the football in Scotland, mind you, in England you can get a beer pre match and at HT at a football match.. how very civilised! Alkies!!
Im sure in the 40's the gents all had a skinfull pre match?!?! surely not AT the match though?!
'"
No, just 4 woodbines at HT
