Given this some thought over the weekend. I personally don't think we should give it to Wane because its the right thing to do, nor do I think we should throw it at any former player - lacking in experience.

We need someone with a good tactical ability for 2 years, to help enhance Wane's experience in this area. Nathan Brown would certainly fit the bill, especially given his tactical approach at Hudds. Not only that but a 2 year stay in this country would suit him down to the ground, given his ambition to return home.

At the moment we could make a serious mistake in coach recruitment because we are focussed on:

*Feeling compelled to give it to Wane.
*Wanting a Wiganer in charge.
*Wanting someone who will stick around forever.

I guess that is someone messing around and he was never truly considering Widnes? Coz if he was considering Widnes I would have given him a shot for 1 year then tried to convince him to coach at Wigan

I've heard Steve Price (the assistant who coached St.George over here) has got their job for next year so I'm guessing Lammy is available. However, Shaun Wane must be the first choice although he may want another couple of years as an assistant coach.

Does anybody on here believe that if we'd appointed Shaun Wane (and not Madge) a year or so ago, that we would be sat here now as reigning champs?

I dont think youll find many who believe Waney could have turned the team around in the dramatic fashion we witnessed last year. If he gets the job we'll be pinning our hopes on the notion that Madge has provided him with the magic recipe for success - the training methods, the coaching techniques, the attack / defensive moves / drills etc etc.. We will also have to believe that having worked with Madge, he can simply pick up where he left off and repeat these methods and success will follow - I dont think so.

If it were that easy surely madge would write a book and every superleague coach would simply follow the instructions!

I'm not close enough to judge Shauns qualities or the contribution he has made to the success we have enjoyed - but one thing I do know is IL will have worked out whether Shaun is the right man to take Wigan forward. He'll also know about his weaknesses and the sort of assistant he'll need should he be given the job.

Have to say I really trust IL's decision making in this area - I for one will be happy with whatever choice he makes.

Just hoping that IL gets another decision correct, there's not many he's got wrong since he took over the club.

Whilst Wigan fans hope that Waney gets the job there's always that doubt that a great club player doesn't always follow it up to make a great club coach.

It's been seen plenty of times before.

What I'm not keen on is Shaun Wane becoming the next Greame West, well in terms of achivements yes but exit from club, no.
