I agree with the poster that said against good teams he's better at 6 and against the poorer teams he's better at 1. This is because the bad defences know what he's going to do (when he comes round on the arc) they just still can't stop it as he's too quick. V better organised defences they know what's happening and can just shut him down.

Having an effective FB is the most important though, and if Amos can do it for us then playing Sam 6 and making do with DG on the wing, is in my opinion a stronger line up than if we played Sam at FB, but like I said, having a FB that is going to provide an attacking threat is very important, and hence it all depends on is Amos can find his form as a FB.

Amos' form basically decides to we have our 'solid' player in the halves Ie - Deacon, or do we have our 'solid' player on the wing Ie - DG. Solid implying does a job without being a game breaker.

no matter what anyone thinks, MM is happy with him to play at FB again.

if the team announced in another thread on here today is correct i'm quite happy to see how it pans out, looks like a good defensive back line with joel and amos side by side, as long as joel doesn't lose his head again!

Quote: king warrior "1 all day for me it gives us a extra half back so we have 3 plus we get 80 mins out of mcilorum who atm has been nothing short of awesome'"

When we moved Sam to fullback I honestly thought it was best for him, he would be able to spot the gaps and chip in as 2nd/3rd reciever and essentially be a 3rd half back on the pitch. But he is wasted at fullback. Its difficult to see him take the highballs, run it back in and get smashed everyweek.
When he moved to 6 last week and Amos to fullback, as e as we still were, it looked more potent. He was involved on the ball and Wire were more unsure of Amos and his movement. Thats definitely the way to go.
Another thing is Sam works best when he doesnt have time/space. He's more instinctive and will try things. When he gets the ball at 1, he has no option but to run it in 20 yards.

I can understand maguires idea behind it, the way sam chips in at 6 like Slater does at 1 at melbourne is similar and that might be his reasoning for Sam at 1... But as much as I love Tommy, deacs and mac, they are no Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk. He isnt getting that same service as Slater does, which makes slater so effective. He needs to be involved, and thats at 6, with finchy/deacs at 7 and Tommy/Mac at 9.

Micky Mac is a great hooker defensively. He will tackle non stop for 80 mins. But he doesnt have the attack/scoot of piggy, Tommy does, and we've seen that for NZ the last few years where he's won everything internationally.

Amos at 1
Sam at 6
Finch/Deacs at 7
Tommy/Micky Mac at 9

Just my 2 cents.

6, every day of the week.

I like McIlorum but he gets a bit stale playing the full 80 - rotate him with Tommy and keep the opposition defence on their toes.

Flicking through the posts on this thread the consensus is he should be in the halves. The current merry go round we operate around the 6,7,9,13 positions switching players around during games with interchanges is not the way to develop slick attacking moves - its too disruptive and we all know TL is not a 7. Moving TL into a part time 9 role with Mickey, and sam into the halves would solve the problem - but its not going to happen. Madge has demonstrated he'd rather bring lockers into the halves than shift sam from FB.
