When we moved Sam to fullback I honestly thought it was best for him, he would be able to spot the gaps and chip in as 2nd/3rd reciever and essentially be a 3rd half back on the pitch. But he is wasted at fullback. Its difficult to see him take the highballs, run it back in and get smashed everyweek.
When he moved to 6 last week and Amos to fullback, as e as we still were, it looked more potent. He was involved on the ball and Wire were more unsure of Amos and his movement. Thats definitely the way to go.
Another thing is Sam works best when he doesnt have time/space. He's more instinctive and will try things. When he gets the ball at 1, he has no option but to run it in 20 yards.
I can understand maguires idea behind it, the way sam chips in at 6 like Slater does at 1 at melbourne is similar and that might be his reasoning for Sam at 1... But as much as I love Tommy, deacs and mac, they are no Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk. He isnt getting that same service as Slater does, which makes slater so effective. He needs to be involved, and thats at 6, with finchy/deacs at 7 and Tommy/Mac at 9.
Micky Mac is a great hooker defensively. He will tackle non stop for 80 mins. But he doesnt have the attack/scoot of piggy, Tommy does, and we've seen that for NZ the last few years where he's won everything internationally.
Amos at 1
Sam at 6
Finch/Deacs at 7
Tommy/Micky Mac at 9
Just my 2 cents.
