rlMASON READY TO GET STUCK INrl

Quote: I'm looking forward to it, "The 30-year-old front rower is best known to English rugby league fans for knocking out Great Britain forward Stuart Fielden with a single punch during the 2006 Tri Nations Series in Sydney.

Mason, who also tangled with Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock during that series, says he is ready for a re-match with Fielden - Hull KR's first meeting with Wigan is on April 15 - or any other English forward.

"I'm looking forward to it," Mason told Sky Sports News on arrival at Manchester Airport. "Stuart's a goer, he's a very proud man and I'm pretty sure he wants to square up and play as hard as he can with me.

"And I won't take a backward step against anyone, regardless of whether it's Stuart Fielden or any English players."'"

That didn't take long, did it? Although probably prompted by Bill Arthur, Willie certainly doesn't beat about the bush!

Played in the last 2 U20s matches, and played very well too (admittedly against poor opposition). He wouldn't let us down if brought into the first team.

Scored three in two since his comeback in the U20s in the past two weeks. Lead from the front in both games.

I'd love to see Ben Davies get some opportunities going forward. It would be a shame if we're still sat here in a couple of years talking about the lad being a good prospect without actually seeing what he can do. He got a few sub appearences last season but most for just the odd 5 minutes here and there and he needs longer then that to make an impact.

I'm sure the way things are going with injuries(for all teams) he'll get a chance sooner rather then later.

Quote: Cherry.Pie "Well these are some of the stats for our props so far this season.

Our top 5 metre making performances...

Paul Prescott - 108m (vs Bradford)
Jeff Lima - 108m (vs Saints)
Lee Mossop - 97m (vs Saints)
Lee Mossop - 81m (vs Salford)
Andy Coley - 77m (vs Bradford)

Average metres made from our props so far are...

Lima - 86m per game
Prescott - 79m per game
Mossop - 76m per game
Fielden - 75m per game
Coley - 67m per game

Highest number of tackles in a game...

Mossop - 32 (vs Saints)
Lima - 32 (vs Saints)
Mossop - 31 (vs Salford)
Prescott - 30 (vs Saints)
Fielden - 30 (vs Bradford)

Average tackles per game...

Lima - 31
Fielden - 30
Mossop - 29
Prescott - 27
Coley - 20'"

Like I said, stats may prove differently to my own opinion. Stats tell you a different story, not that I'm doubting they stats validity you stated but for me we seem to lose that 'umph' going forward when Prescott and Mossop are on the pitch together.

I'll wait to see how we fair in the next few games.

I didn't post the stats to try to disprove what you're saying, just to show how our props have been faring so far. After only 3 games it's probably too early to work out anything meaningful. What you say about Prescott is probably true, his average metres per carry are lower than our other 4 main props (although against Salford his were the highest).
I'd generally agree that Prescott isn't going to be a high metre maker but he does have his uses and as a work horse forward he's a very good asset.
Mossop and Lima seem to be our best metre makers, Prescott works tirelessly and will often be a good player to compliment one of those two. Coley's work rate seems to be down from previous years but he's still got some good games in him. At the moment I don't think there is too much to worry about with our props.
