I would be fairly sure that the Infirmary would have its own back-up power supply for such events, as I doubt anyone would be impressed at someone's life support machine going off for 20 minutes due to folks in Swinley using their kettles.

That was what I was thinking too... Thought there would have been loads of people breaking in to houses seeing as all the alarms were already going off.
