I suppose he got lucky when he won the tri-nations, and nilled Austrailia in the final in the process. Thats pretty great. He's the only coach to coach a team to back to back SL titles. He's also the only coach to coach a side to a WCC and a title win in the same season.
Say what you like about McClennan the person, but his record as a coach is top class wherever he's been.
