| What really upsets me is the way his career fizzled out well before his stupid mistake. I hope a lot of people don't forget what a good hooker Terry Newton was at Wigan. During his time in the cherry and White he went toe to toe with Cunningham fighting for supremacy. Like Cunningham he wore his club colours with pride, eventually crying his eyes out for the cause on the biggest stage of them all.
Who knows, if he hadn't have left the club before his time we could be celebrating the culmination of careers from 2 great Lancashire hookers this weekend.
RIP Terry lad.

| I am shocked and saddened. I was lucky to meet Terry at a shirt launch a number of years ago and will always remember him as a top guy, true gent and amazing rugby league player.

lets hope we can hear a pin drop during this,
and for the people who are thinking about spoiling the show of respect remember this....
newton loved this sport played with pride and passion.
yes he was a rugby league player but first of all he was a son, a father and a husband.
you might not agree with the playing side of the fella but please show respect for the family that is left behind.

| I think Terry was one of those players who fans would love to have on their own side, and love to hate if he played for the opposition. The news filtering through yesterday must go down as one of the most surreal experiences of my life, particularly as the early rumours that had surfaced had appeared to be have been dispelled as a hoax at one stage, meaning that the awful truth hit twice as hard once it was starting to be confirmed.
Let's hope that some good can come of his dreadful passing and that clubs, players and society in general take a keener interest in mental health and, if anything, better education for players to stay away from drugs and the like that appeared to have had a big effect on this spiral of events.
I'm sure Saturday will be a hugely emotional occasion, and it would be fitting if Wigan won the Grand Final on behalf of the Wigan lad who cried trying.
RIP Terry.
