lets put it this way..........in those days fans went to games to mainly have a few beers and a chat with their mates about what happened saturday night (we played sunday afternoon those days)..........away games were just an excuse for an all dayer.
fans expected a win, and mostly got one.........but a lot didnt even watch the match for chatting.
maybe thats were the arrogance came in...idk......but these days fans get behind the team and watch every move.....like they are actually interested in the match...
personally i think the 2006 season was the best ever for getting fans behind the team.......and to me was more enjoyable than the era of winning everything....as nothing was ever a certainty, and we had to battle.
but tbh ive watched Wigan since about 1958 and never thought of us as being a "team to hate"...........not like Man u in wendyball..........this hatred of wigan is a recent thing imo..........maybe brought on by the Lyhdsay era...ie....salary cap cheats.
