Quote Jeff the God of Biscuits="Jeff the God of Biscuits"I was there last year, but don't remember hearing said chant? Not that i'm calling you a liar, I just didn't hear them myself. The thing that sticks out for me is that 90% of the fans wear their club colours. Why not wear England colours? It isn't a club game. Fair enough not everyone can afford an England RL top & a club Jersey, but, if you go into ASDA they have a wide range of St George motiff clothing which would have looked better than the mish-mash of colours we had yesterday.'"
Quote Jeff the God of Biscuits="Katrina"In football, you don't see people turning up in club colours, they all wear England shirts. I'd like to think if the RFL tried to promote the wearing of England gear, it'd be harder for people to distinguish the clubs they each support, so hopefully would get behind England. If there's a group of Wire or Saints fans and they see a group of Wigan fans sat not so far away, they're going to chant anti-Wigan songs, the same with us, we'd sing anti-Wire songs like we did at Murrayfield Magic.'"
Both fair points. Think it can be related to the lack of games to be honest as people think what's the point of buying a shirt if England are only going to play at home once a year, and I think the same could be said as to why so few people take the international scene seriously.
Look at how many games the football side play and how many the RL side do, and I think that begins to answer why there's an entirely different culture. That said, I'd rather the inter-club banter of RL internationals than the all-out xenophobia of the football!
