| I've taken this off the Terry Newton topic as i thought it may get lost in all the other talk on recreational drugs vs. enhancers.
What do people think turns a great player into being a Wigan legend?
I’ve seen that players like Boston, Edwards, Radders and Hanley are classed as Wigan legends but others like Newton maybe aren’t. Where do players like Bell, Offiah, Robinson, Bell or Wane fit into the equation?
Is talent alone enough to make someone a Wigan legend as that would most defiantly make Hanley Wigan’s greatest ever wouldn’t it? Or do other factors such as length of service, medals or passion to come into it?
Not to pick on Hanley to much but surly he wasn’t as loyal to the club or passionate about it as some other players have been? Although an undoubted great player he couldn’t have won any medals or awards without the rest of the great players around him right?
Vague question I know but it’s interesting to see others opinions as for me a player like Newton is a club legend. His passion for the club is never in question and his talent makes him one of the best hookers we’ve ever had. Although his length or service and medal count don’t stand up to others before him these things were arguably out of his hands right?
Again it doesn’t have to necessarily be about Newton but it applies to other players as well like the ones mentioned above.

Certainly a legend.
Not in the top 5 centres I have seen at Wigan but certainly the best captain.

"I have this system where I support England first, then the other Home Nations, then the rest of the Commonwealth, then the rest of the World, then France.": |

| Quote: BrisbaneRhino "Glad to see someone mention Graeme West. Its hard for forwards to work their way into these lists because they're simply not the flash harry backs. What about Andy Platt or Andy Goodway?
As an outsider I'd certainly suggest Bell, Offiah, Robinson, Edwards, Hanley.
A few other names to conjure with - where would Lydon, Gregory, Hampson fit?'"
Maybe Platt. Can't quite see Goodway, as much as I liked him. What about Phil Clarke or, my own favourite, Denis Betts?

If Craig Smith had been here longer, he could have been on this list. Remember him carrying our pack through that play off game against Leeds in 2003.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubblegum.
Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

| Certainly at present I feel Pat will go down as a legend. He's the front runner for Man of Steel in my eye's, and if can win that along with a couple of trophies he'll be classed as a legend. After all he's the best winger in the comp at present and has been for a long time, in fact he's probably the best outside back in the comp.
