Do you think that by not counting the free tickets that part of the reason for offering them in the first place is being lost? For my thinking the scheme has two purposes; firstly to get more people to go to the games (which has worked) and secondly to show the public that fans are going to these games and that the challenge cup IS still important to RL fans. Just because it's not covered and financed by SKY doesn't mean it's not important and doesn't exist.
When Jo Public/ casual SKY TV spectator scrolls down the CC results/attendances he'll see less than 3k went to see the SL leaders play at Sheffield and think... poor showing, obviously CC doesn't matter.
Or.... am I way out on this?
