I simply cannot believe that nobody has noticed the fact that Melbourne Storm had a very similar leadership group with the likes of Scott Hill, Cam Smith, Kidwell etc for about 2 or 3 years before Cameron Smith emerged as the full time leader and captain of the side and club. This seems to have worked very well both in developing team responsibilty and in grooming Smith to do a superb job without having been thrust into a full time role at 21.

It would be good if one of the younger players was included in this scheme such as sam tomkins or harrison hansen to build for the future.

Quote: clifford "its who the coach and team want and what they can see working. Not really what us as fans want. Just because people predict a big year for Stu does not mean that his leadership skills, respect amongst team mates etc are right for being in the leadership group. We on the sidelines know very little about the dynamics in the current Wigan squad. Going off player interviews is unreliable too as everybody puts their best face on for these. I could turn it round asnd say I hope this is motivational in Coley's season and he rises to the challenge.'"

absolutely, it could motivate coley to have a top year but you look at the heights fielden reached as a player and what coley has achieved and they are worlds apart. i know we haven't seen the best of stu at wigan but my thoughts are been one of the chosen five may have been the catalyst we needed to see him get near that sort of form. However as you rightly point out none of us are MM and he sees things we do not. With how animated stu can get on the field i always think of him as a peacock/morley mould of player. Who would have thought Morley had those leadership qualities when he was getting sin binned and sent off every other week. i certainly didn't. Without doubt the club would benefit more from an inform Fielden than an inform Coley. Coley doesn't have the capability to reach the levels Fielden did. i just hope MM has made the right call.

I must admit that I am a little shocked by the 5. Well Leuluai & Coley. But I am also intrigued by the way that this is going to work so, I'm more than happy to sit back and enjoy the ride.
I could be a bold move or it could be a howler. eusa_think.gif

I agree with what your saying about capabilities although Fielden has not hit top form for years now. Without saying too much I get the impression that he is not viewed like JP is at Leeds and is quiet and not much of a motivational talker in training. Whereas I believe the opposite is true of Coley. I dont want to go into personalities as this is a rugby site.

that could well be, coley looks to be a bit of a character. i like coley, hes a grafter, and maybe the players appreciate his good honest hard work. Time will tell, definately exciting times ahead. As for the above post as i understood, the players had alot to do with who was chosen but i very much doubt that MM didn't play a part in the decision making over this.
