Back Lane wasn't too bad.
However it does seem that they're only gritting from Hullet Close upwards, must be going through Woodnook estate.
If it freezes the bottom is going to be frightening.
Apparently somebody has been skiing down it today

| In Sheffield they have CIty Centre Ambassadors, I'm not entirely certain what they do other than just wander around looking like they feel important. Today a few council peeps were out shovelling snow while said ambassadors did bugger all. I saw at least six of them just wandering about A few more shovels and grit and things would have been much easier.
It was like a ghost town though, spookily quiet in the centre as no one could get there!

. Of course we could prepare for these conditions every year, have dozens of unused gritters sitting around for 20 years until they might be needed, hire additional staff just in case and add £50 to your council tax to pay for it all?
quote
sitting around gritters cost nowt to run.
we could use the present workforce to stockpile even more grit/sand in summer instead of doing what seem to be unecessary tasks (like watering hanging baskets to keep em occupied)...again no extra cost.
and we have just paid the bin men 3 weeks wages for about 2 days work....so the extra temp staff (see previous post) would more than make up for it without having to add to the council tax bills.
and the wigan economy would benefit by people being able to shop in shops that the shop workers could get to.

Ridiculous.
For fooks sake lets just put it down to 'one of those things'.....then in fifteen years time when it happens again with such ferocity we can all shrug and say it's 'one of those things'.
Let's just say it's not common for the UK to have such extreme weather over the years. Pie Man you could have it worse, but for the grace of god you could have been a resident / visitor of coastal Sri Lanka / Thailand / Indonesia and sat having turkey butties on boxing day in 2004. Let's just be grateful for that fact.

Sorry, that was a sarcastic response to wigan pie man.
I wasn't suggesting that they should clear the entire borough.
I would be annoyed if they did.
Am I the only one that enjoys driving in the snow?
Was in proper WRC mood this morning over Red Rock.

There is no way extra men and salt would be able to clear it, but it would have some impact. Would it be worth the money, would it mean less spent on Libraries etc etc?? What I will say tho is why don't the council put more salt buckets out in winter and keep them full, one per estate. I certainly would walk and help salt my estate if it meant I could drive off it. The roads around Eccleston (Lancashire BC) are just passable but nothing can get of my estate.
And as was posted earlier, we had no power this morning and has been on and off all afternoon. that will be the Electric mans fault
