No, you get a home tie either way. I suppose in theory if you finish 5th you get to play a poorer team, the one who finished 8th as opposed to 7th but I hardly think that is any real advantage.
Same with finishing 1st or 2nd as that makes no odds either unless you think the gimmick of choosing your opponent is a real advantage assuming you get that far.
Just goes to show the new play off format is rubbish IMO compared to the top 5 system where each team got a bit more advantage the higher up the league they finished. There is no practical difference between finishing 5th or 6th and it is still sudden death.
With the top 5 system only one team exit'ed the competition each week.
