Seeing as how Brian Noble was his boss at the time, I think there's a reasonable chance it was true.
If there had been a disciplinary reason for sending him home, Nobby would have said so to set an example to the rest of the team.
Why would he try to hide a disciplining!!!??? That would just send out a message that the players can behave as badly as they want and go home without any blame!

Long WAS sent home and that comes from a player that was on the tour at the time, Hock & Newton also tried boarding the wrong plane from NZ back to Aus too
