Final bump for this. The event is taking place this Saturday. Hopefully this lovely weather will hold out, we'll have a good turnout and all of the kids will have some fun.

Cheers fellas.

Chester Gladiators were in celebratory mood today after being awarded a significant four-figure sum by the Lottery funded Awards for All scheme.

The grant of £6,492 will be used by the club to deliver a junior coaching programme in a number of Chester schools over the next twelve months. In addition the funding will allow a number of the clubs volunteers to gain formal UKCC coaching certificates as well as financing the purchase of new kit and equipment.

"This is fantastic news for everybody connected with the club,” said Chairman Jim Green.

“We worked really hard on our application and we are extremely grateful to Awards for All for their support. The costs of running a sports club increases year on year and this grant is extremely welcome.”

The Gladiators were formed in 2008 and their open age team compete in the RL Merit League sponsored by Kukri Sports. The club launched a junior section earlier this year and has already attracted lots of children who are keen to experience the sport.

“The Try Rugby League project will allow us to introduce local youngsters to the game and those who wish to play competitively will be more than welcome at our club,” said Green.

“Our first year in existence has seen us make huge advancements both on and off the field. We are all hugely excited about what the next twelve months will bring.”

Chester Gladiators next fixture is on Saturday 16th May when the open age team entertain Crewe & Nantwich Steamers at Hare Lane in a match that kicks-off at 2.30 PM. Both the junior and senior sections train on Thursday evenings (6.15 PM – 7.15 PM) at Hare Lane and new players are always welcome.

The Awards for All scheme has now changed its funding priorities with regards to sports clubs, but funding is still available for projects and information can be found at the Awards for All website - www.awardsforall.org.uk.

Well done to all at Chester.
It takes a lot of hard work to get a Rugby League club started.
Credit is due, well done!

Enormous credit and not just any club, Chester is extremely well run and a highlight of our fixture list at the Riversiders. On an additional note they've also done damn well to get money out of awards for all - our application has had countless hours spent on it, been re-submitted 3 times and still no nearer to being allocated funding...
