Does anyone know what happened to the posts from Central Park? Unlike the current ones, they didn't sway in the wind or wobble for 5 minutes after a ball hit them.

On the subject of goalposts, the current ones standing at Orrell are actually 1960's lamp posts. Strange but true

I still remember the sound of Matty Johns' drop goal thudding off the post.

I always thought they were willow trees. Anyone know for sure? I assumed they were because it's how the ground got its name i.e. plenty of willow trees in that area, hence having willow trees as goalposts.

i dont see em making goal posts out of willow.
cricket bats are willow...and its an expensive wood

my moneys on pine......the stuff they made pit props from, because its straight and its cheap.
