Some crazy views. His strength? His running lines as we saw when he hit the hole from an Amos pass when winger did not support him. We still scored in that set though with Goulding putting in a neat pass. The first shoulder charge by Byrne was a brilliant piece of defence. Byrne got his result but came off worse. The second break he should have scored but like all British youngsters he tried to stay upright and step back.

The comparison to Gidley is absurd and unfair but the secret of Gidley is that he does not even try to beat his opposing defender. He simply keeps a low body position and uses the try line as his friend, taking the tackle as he scores.

Quote: thezipzipman "He broke again and Byrne pulled off a magnificent tackle that left Byrne doubled over and gasping for air. He then missed 1 possible try. A try that Gidley would have scored, Senior too but other centres lacking a decade plus of experience, no. I do wish supporters would not make incorrect or inaccurate statements.'"

He opted for his own pace instead of passing it to his winger, hence why he bombed it.

Nobody is slating Goulding for it, just merely an observation.

I think he will evenutally come good.

What Goulding needs is to become one of Nobles undroppables and be given a consistent run in the side, hopefully enabling him to form a partnership with a winger.

The only way he is going to become a better centre is to make a few mistakes, learn from the experience and develop his skills over time - in exactly the same manner that some are advocating for Tomkins.

Quote: Meyt N Prater Pie "If Im honest, I can sort of live with a player having below average defence if their attack is good.Goulding showed good signs of this in 06 and 08 but since, he has been rubbish in my opinion. I cannot think of a single time he has ever passed the ball. certainly not in a good situation. Its so frustrating. if he doesnt sort that out he'll be gone'"

This time last year you had given up on Joel and was after shipping him to Widnes permenetly icon_wink.gif icon_smile.gif

You think he'd be showing a bit more by now that's all. There's usually some break-through performance where you think "blimey, this guy is a good player". Yet to see that yet for mine.

Just to mention it again. The lad's 20, still qualifies for the U21s.
He's a good talent but not the finished article.
Noble could do with playing him and Roberts for a number of games to get them used to each other's play.
With Mather's suspension and Roberts to fb this hasn't happened yet.
After his game at Hull last week Goulding deserves an extended run in the first team.
