What are the alternatives?? Bring someone else in and we'll be challenging for the GF next year yea?'"
The scenario is that we miss the play offs. If we miss them AGAIN, for the THIRD year in a row, then maybe we'll challenge to actually get into the playoffs and make a little more progess year on year if we brought somebody else in. Currently we are making none.
Just a thought.
And I can hardly see us winning any more games this season even with our "playmakers" returning.

Thoughts?'"
McDermott has managed to build reasonable sides out of fairly limited resources, for that reason I wouldn't want to see him walk. If he did go we'd only have the issue of who to bring in, it wouldn't make the squad any stronger.

We won two thirds of our matches up to the current slump (always winning the next league match after each of our first five defeats) so why would we be so unlikely to win some games with most of the missing players back in the side now? (Especially as none the remaining fixtures after this weekend are against teams in the top 4 and everyone else seems to be much of a muchness.)

"That wasn't a kick, the was a pass with his foot!" Brian Noble making Andrew Voss lose sleep: |

| Quote: gutterfax "I would suggest that, given we have hit the dizzy heights of 5th and 6th and yet found ourselves in DIRE debt and now have 1 less (average) fan than in the year 2000 that my route is the one to try this time.
'"
I would hardly call 5th or 6th a success, its not going to attract the big media headlines that we need to make people realise we are here. That only comes from [iwinning[/i the Grand Final or, to a lesser extent now thanks to Sky the Challenge Cup.
Rugby Union had a surge in popularity after 2003, same as Cricket in 2005 after the Ashes, people want to be involved when the team is winning and writing its history books, for some people it is just to say "I was there when England won the Ashes/ Rugby world cup" not many people are going to sit down and tell their grandchildren about the magnificent season London Broncos finished 6th, however it will be a story to say you were there at Old Trafford the year Harlequins Rugby League won their first ever Super League Trophy.
Success of the London teams will raise the games profile in London, A major success for England (Clean Sweep win in the 4nations, or World Cup win) will raise the game profile nationally and make a few proper house hold names of players.

| Quote: Surreyben " I think Brian Mc's position should be properly reviewed in the final year of his contract - if we haven't made the play-offs by then, and are still bobbing around in our usual 7-9th place then yes, things may need a change.
'"
You are right, what is the point in giving someone a 3 year contract and then terminating it after its first year?
I know BM has had a good amount of time to make the team his own, and yes on paper our final positions have been disappointing but he got a 3 year deal for a reason.
I will be very disappointed if we finish 7th or lower this year, as I believe we are easily the 6th best team in the comp, but if we don't meet my expectations, or even worse don't make the play-offs at all, I don't think the man should lose his job over it, not this season anyway.
Besides after Saints today our upcoming games look a lot easier, Bulls twice should see us back to winning ways again, at least once, but I'm starting to curse the snow again, because I am convinced we would have stuffed them in February.

It's not down to the snow, it's down to us playing Manly. We should have cancelled the Manly game to play Bradford instead!

| Final position the season is yet to unfold in full. Keep the faith
Injuries during the season Ask Hull Fc how they've coped over the past two or so years with their injury list, Yes they changed their coach during this period but that hasn't improved their injury situation.
His standing in the club ie players and management
Why give him a 3 year deal if your not prepared to back him over that period?
Future player development If last weeks boots n all was owt to go by junior player development in the SE of England is still on the up with Phil Jones and his staff being at the forefront of this. When the heartlands clubs come a knocking on the doors of southern talent as they will one day we'll all be shouting "stop Thief", won't we??
Can he take the club further- strategy, ideas etc maybe through an interview with the board That's a question for David Hughes and Co. But a lesson once learned in the world of football is regarding Sir Alex Ferguson. ALLEGEDLY one game from the sack, his team went on to eek out a win and as they say the rest is history. Why give him a 3 year deal if your not prepared to back him over that period?
The clubs owners aspirations- see the line above- do they dovetail
according to David Hughes we are towards the upper limits fo the salary cap. If that isn't support for the current coach then what is it? a Folly? Why give him a 3 year deal if your not prepared to back him over that period?
Club philosophy ie do we want a young English coach that's neither my place to sort out nor demand but why give him a 3 year deal if your not prepared to back him over that period?
His signings performances against what we let go- Mclinden etc That's always a matter of personal opinion. And the only opinions that matter is that of the directors, who last year gave him a 3 year deal. Sport is full of players that got away and @ Quins we'll be no different.

If we are indeed towards the upper limit of the salary cap then i would seriously question the value of the players he has signed/retained subject to the fact that he cannot change the personnel under less than 3 years due to being locked into contracts.
Effectively we are saying we are paying the same salaries as Saints, Leeds, Wigan etc. and have a much poorer quality of team.

I don't think it's as simple as that. I would imagine bigger clubs are able to offer other incentives outside the salary cap such as a car and accommodation, or at least subsidies in those areas. It remains more expensive to live and work in London, and most existing SL players will already live along the M62 corridor and won't necessarily need to relocate to join another northern club.
Say for instance Warrington or Wigan made an offer for Richie Myler, and Quins offered him the same salary - would he seriously consider coming to join us right now? I doubt it. If we were already an established top 4 club with five figure crowds it might be different though. The whole low attendances/lower half of the table position is a vicious circle and won't be easy to break.

Because we took advantage of teams playing badly. The teams were beat have come on leaps and bounds and we have gone nowhere. For example, I can't see Cas playing anywhere nearly as badly as they did at The Jungle. Rangi Chase had a shocker - he has come on miles and is a decent player now.

| Never mind being sacked.
BM has never hidden his true feelings (see Catalans at MM last year) and if we continue on the losing path and/or missing the 8, I can see him walking.
He knows another SL side would snap him up and if he's trying his damnedest and the players aren't turning up why should he bother?
On the flip side it could be his coaching that is causing this collapse. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Speaking as a neutral, I think you're being a little unfair to your lads. You don't have a big squad so when your key playmakers are injured you are stuck. You were playing some great rugby league when your playmakers were playing. It is not surprising that you have struggled without them given the depth of your squad. But in their absence your players have, on the whole, worked really hard, which is to their credit. I think on Saturday they were a bit thrown by having at least one of your players back - that disrupts play. By the second half they had adjusted and you had two of your playmakers on the park. Things will get better as they return, I'm sure of that.
