A column on Sky Sports every so often bigging up the Broncos.

But yes, he is no doubt getting older and will lose pace...is he carrying a knock?

Be interesting to see how Kieren Dixon would go at FB....is he the future there?'"

Dorny is not good on the high ball - will let it bounce if he can - poor in defence, and no he doesn't like tackling, all spelled out to us when he came back from Cas IIRC.
On the positive side he has an electric burst of speed and can get through a gap if we can create it.

As long as he can provide the tries the team will try to cover for his shortcomings as we don't have too many out and out try scorers. If he is carrying an injury he shouldn't be out there but if he has lost his pace then there really is no point in him being out there as he can offer nothing in attack or defence. You can't pick someone for sentimental reasons when there are fit young players out there waiting their chance. The other teams will soon suss him out and we will soon be getting hammered again. Lets hope it us just a knock icon_wink.gif

You dont need lightening pace to be an effective FB- just ask Wellens - He can read a game, knows where to position himself and has a history of scoring tries.

Errors compound errors cuz they get in your head - Carney for GB at QPR - doesn't make them a bad player and madness to drop one of the best players to wear our jersey over the past 8 years with a kid who has played once

Wellings can tackle, is good under the high ball and plays for St Hellens who don't depend on him to score tries.
I wouldn't be in a hurry to play Edwards there just yet but there are other options for FB if it comes to it.

Dorn had some very poor moments on Saturday.

Dorn remains an excellent fullback.

Next!

Excellent full backs = Slater, Hayne, Wellens, Tomkins, Locke, Hodgson, Greenshields, Boyd

Capable full backs = Webb, Mathers, Patten, Minichello, Briscoe

And then there is Luke Dorn.

Come on people, Dorn has had a bad game, next time out he could well be a matchwinner, time to lighten up!

Wow, really? He made one drop under the high ball and he made one stupid pass, and he's got his own thread? It's amazing sometimes. He also made a few good catchs at full back, but anyone expecting someone to come out and perform to his best of abilities in the first game on a cold day is living on a different planet to most of us.

I'm now getting texts from people saying he's to blame for our defeat. time to put away the icon_biggrin.gifAISY: happy pills icon_biggrin.gifAISY: and get back to reality. Our defense around the ruck got caught out a number of times for James -one trick- Roby.
Its something that can get worked on on the playing field was exposed by one of the comps best at it. On almost every other front we were the better side

Excellent full backs

Good lord, even I would rate Dorn above Mathers. Have you not seen Mathers play for the last 6 or so years? I'd rather have Dusty turning out at full back.

Apart from 1 horrendous error, didn't think Dorn was that bad personally.

Luke Dorn scored 13 tries in 2011 in a very poor London side, you do not become a bad player overnight but unfortunately the positive aspects of his game were not on display on Saturday and he was not helped by the gaping holes in defence in front of him that Lomax and Roby could drive a Stobart truck through……I am sure that Dorn will have been disappointed with some of his efforts.

The worry that I have is that his pace has really dipped and this is what he depends on to both score tries and get himself out of scrapes. He had a lot of problems with pulled hamstrings last season and I wonder if this has taken its toll. Dorn`s defence and tackling has never been that good, so if he struggles to regain his pace RP may have to look at other options.

Funnily enough in my day job I am - you are clever.

Maybe I should have sufficed it to say that Luke Dorn would not appear in MY list of top 50 full backs in the world, and if Luke Dorn is people's idea of 'excellent' then Billy Slater must be off the univeral scale.

Where does your hero Richie Mathers rank? Granted, he was very unfortunate to let Widnes score their opening try on Friday night, errors like that are obviously few and far between for him and he is a rock in defense.
