Quote: "I'm only comparing player on player, they have similar roles, centres that drift away every so often. I was only refering to their defensive/attacking abilities, not whether they are left/right players etc. Senior seems to spend most of his game in the forwards anyway, so again, i'd rather have him there than Clubb.
'"

Listy o' Listy you've lost the plot with this one.

You can only compare a centre against a centre surly. This year Clubby has rarely featured in the centres and therefore on current form it would be difficult to run a comparison.

I would be interesting to see Senior feature as a prop ala Clubby

Not as much as usual but he has played on quite a few occasions (I recall being furious about his defence out wide).

Do you really think Clubb is being used as an out and out prop? It almost seems like a hybrid between a prop and a second rower to me, leaning more towards being second row.

I agree. We are using him as a "forward". If you look at the team for tonight thread this is what I have suggested may happen. 3 props plus Clubby.

As Yoda (AKA) paddock punter has pionted out, Clubb misses loads of tackles....but by god, when he connects....he CONNECTS icon_cool.gif
I see him as a Second row forward with a tendancy to attack from a wide position, but defend nearer the middle due to his missed tackle count. Either way, I am glad he's a quins player.
If you like a lot of tackle in your Rugby Join our Clubb!

Youd rather have a good qualiity ageing northerner in the side than a good quality young londoner? You say some bizarre things sometimes.

You miss the point. I said in the team, i.e on a match day, not in the squad for the season, where obviously I would favour Clubb.

<sigh>

We are playing Salford tomorrow. 1 shirt is up for grabs. 2 players can fill this shirt, Clubb or Senior. Who do you choose?

Senior for me, every day of the week.

Senior is obviously the better player, but he's at the end of a long career and Clubb is in the early stages of his. You also have to remember that early in his representative career Senior actually spent time on the wing because we had superior centres such as Connolly and Newlove.

I've never regarded Senior as a great centre, a very good one certainly, but his great strength has been his consistency through the years. I doubt Clubb will become a great centre either, but I suspect he may become a very good second-row in time if he can improve his overall defensive game (he's already well on the way to becoming a devastating attacking second-row).

Newlove, now he really was a great player in his prime, as was Connolly. I hope we can find someone as talented as them one day. In fact Senior has been a very good Centre, not exactly subtle more along the rough and brutal side - but very effective icon_wink.gif
