Quote: el red "The problem is this, Wigan will get to go through their exact game day prep for a HOME game whilst London will go through their AWAY game prep (hotels, travel etc). Wigan don't need the extra help from the RFL but unfortunately there is no integrity at Red Hall. They will claim its in the best interests of the sport to put on a full house for TV but then what use is that when Wigan rattle up a cricket score (in probability, sorry London fans).
We have an outstanding product on the pitch and a 'pop up store' mentality running it off the field.

The RFL will be happy to see London go now and claim they have helped you over the years but in reality they should have thrown a shed load of money at London (and no I don't think they have) to give you a chance but then again Brian McDermott said the same on his return to Leeds and the powers that be just don't get it.

Best of luck in the semi from a KR fan.'"

Good post sir.

Anyway, moving forward, what are people doing for this? Reasonably priced rail fares to Manchester seem to be tricky to come by so tempted to drive up and stay over somewhere. But then Leigh doesn't seem to be a great place for hotels...!

Just over 6,000 for the Wigan v Widnes game, what are the predictions for the semi at Leigh?

Looking like the 'Gus Bus' for me. Although I'll see what the details are for that.

I've bought my ticket, anyway (by phone - neither semi's on the RFL ticketing website at the moment icon_rolleyes.gif ).

Is there a designated stand or blocks of a stand for London fans? Away end presumably as Wigan are at home! icon_biggrin.gif

Quote: markrammond "What is idiotic from the RFL is to play the match in a Stadium with poor public transport links. That should rule out Leigh automatically

I'm not disappointed with the decision to play near Wigan but why not Widnes or St Helens? It would be a three hour trip almost anywhere so it doesn't make a lot of odds to me to travel, as I do anyway.

If it is near the Pies a crowd of about 10,000 will come and our club will pocket 5,000 lots of £20 or so especially as the Pies are arrogant enough to think they are automatically in the final already.'"

Well lets face it, we pretty much are. I'm not going because I have a very important cricket game that day.

However, it's either going to be an absolute mauling or a 2 point victory by London. Neither of which I want to go and pay money for.

Maybe you can persuade a few thousand more of your dedicated 6,000 who attended last night to do the same. That would be all that the clowns at the RFL deserve for their cowardly decision to find a stadium that will "look good" on TV.

I completely agree with you. The RFL do not have the foggiest! Feel sorry for your fans, I really do.

Like EW says the Park Hotel is on the same site as the ground (less than 100 yards away)and the M6 is only 10 min drive away.
For those having a walk into Leigh (10 min app) you would be made welcome in the George and Dragon Pub ,the last time I was in John Smiths Cream flow was only about £1-60 per pint, That was in late Jan.

See the thread on the Wigan Site headed "USUAL SUSPECTS", the landlord of the pub is doing a bit of advertising.
For anyone going by train , the nearest station is Atherton (3 miles from Leigh) 582 bus 40 yds from the station and after a 10 min journey you are dropped off at the George and Dragon front door.

'stillinthepast' the 'Landlord' you mention, is not in Leigh or even Wigan.
Bert runs "The George Hotel - Pub in St Helens"
There is a 'George & Dragon' in Leigh town centre, but it's nowt to do with the 'plug' that you have read.
All the best v the Pies.

Dave

go for west stand, block D. N is the back row before the corporate boxes, between the half way line and the 20m line. South Stand is seated behind the goal.

Thanks a lot Budgiezilla for pointing out my error, I suddenly realised this afternoon that I had got my nickers in a twist with my post.
I now know that the George mentioned in the plug is in St Helens (and that the Saints George plug was for the Saints Wigan match next Monday).

Now for the good news, after a bit of research this afternoon I can now confirm that Tetleys Bitter can be had in the George and Dragon in Leigh town centre for £1-50 a pint.
The motto is the more you drink the more you save.
