I'm pretty sure we beat Wigan in the first game, I think the score was 24 - 5. |

Was Wigan according to Wiki!

Mmm, probably had the crowd boosted by fans curious to see a London team play the game that was shown every(?) Saturday afternoon on the BBC's Grandstand and commentated on by Eddie 'Up and Under' Waring!! Have to remember there were only 3 TV channels in those days (C4 didn't come into existence until late '82) so for all the depth of coverage we get from Sky, RL probably had a higher profile in the average sports fans mind albeit as the Northern game. BBC ie the national broadcaster now only show CC games and the SL show (which is confined to the regions or shown at 3 in the morning on Mondays or some other God forsaken time!) Also no Premier League,no Guinness Premiership with arguably a much lower profile then for RU clubs,no Sky football live on telly . What we wouldn't give for a near 10,000 crowd now, haven't had a gate like that at the Stoop since the fist game back there vs Saints. About 8,000 curious fans,whatever happened to them? |
