| An item on this game on Five Live this morning, we almost got a mention. Matty Smith did say they have two former London players in their first team.
We got some credit there,
Went on about how much potential there is for RL in London. Heard it all before.
Did make a change to here Rugby League getting good air time. Pity it was about Wigan in London, not the Broncos.

Wigan showing what hard work and marketing spend can achieve! Why would anyone not applaud that?
Good luck to them.... If they get anything like the 10k they are looking for I can see it becoming a regular thing.

| Good luck to them and its only after the game if anyone can really tell if the effort and the expense has been worth it. And that benefit is not the actual crowd size it's the corporate bit that matters. Anyone know how much they have spent in cash and personnel terms on what is after all just one event in a long season?
And then there is the magic ingredient of a successful team (brand if you must) which might help just a little bit.

I doubt they care if they make a loss or not this weekend as it is part of a bigger scheme. The "sold" an entire stand to Heinz for a game v London a few years back and it wasn't long after that BIG SOUP became an associate/partner/sponsor or whatever Red Hall spin them as this year.
If Lenengan had been permitted to stay at London we'd not be looking forward to pub football at a wedding venue next year.....it really is that simple. For all the people on here and who no longer post, this weekend will be a demonstration of what could have been if the club hadn't been owned and run by idiots. Wigans PR machine has been in overdrive the last few weeks and the results are there to be seen.......our version of that was Buck and Dusty Tube surfing!

Yes my point was about the corporate bit and the longer term. And I didn't ask about the past and if Leneghan had stayed as part of London, think we know it would have been different today. But not sure that answers the cash and personnel invested question about this particular game.

I doubt Wigan will be publishing their spend details, but it won't be short of 70K IMHO......not a massive spend when you consider the[u 40k a week[/u Hughes flushed between 2008-2013.

| Agree they probably won't, but if 70k just on the marketing element for one game excluding the general management and running of the club that has to be covered anyway. Assume the hire of the venue is an extra cost. So quite a bit spent over a few weeks to market one game. If Wigan continue to be a dominant force and continue with this and the capital challenge against skolars they will probably reap the rewards corporately which longer term might out weigh their costs. I hope it goes well for them but I have yet to be convinced that Wigans commercial acumen will necessarily provide any direct benefits to London RL, either Skolars or Broncos.
I didn't ask about LB's previous expenditure, as nothing directly on topic (there's a surprise) as not relevant to this aspect but if Hughes was spending 40k a week just to make the bills meet on running a club like hiring a venue, funding training facilities, first team squad, travel, accommodation for away games and homes for players, academy structures, support staff and even the lack of marketing commonly identified after all the Sky money received. We're talking about what on top of this weekly figure to provide the right level of marketing for a year. Another 10k a week perhaps, or say £500k extra a year on marketing, though that sounds far too small an amount to make the sea change difference for Broncos require to make an immediate impact from where they are now?

| Lenagan knows the importance of a Capital presence, Wigan ironically 'prolly have more of a presence in London than the Broncos do, during their halycon period they were here once a year every year in their thousands in Cherry and White Hoops, I wouldn't mind betting more Londoners know who Wigan are than the Broncos.
Lenagan is merely keeping the Wigan brand in the spotlight in the City, now that the SL era has removed some of their dominance, he and his board 'prolly feel it's important to keep up appearances. The Catalans game is 'prolly ideal, few travelling away fans (so its 'prolly their lowest home gate anyways) and they might be able to tap into London's visiting French Tourists, and a bit of the ole' "It's an English Club v some foreign club" mentality.
I think it's brilliant!
