Lowes has gone to Leeds as Big Macs assistant !!!!
Lets Give Rob a chance to prove himself, he has the support of the owner, the Board and the players least we could do is give him our full support. Welcome to the hotseat Rob, and good luck !!!

| I would have loved to have seen a high profile appointment but that was never gonna happen.
David Hughes has stated his reasons for this choice & without him & his financial support, this club would have gone under a long time ago.
If the rumour mill is correct, we are going to get a license in the next franchise round so we have got 4 years to get our act together.
It's gonna be tough but hey, aren't we used to that as Bronco's/Quins supporters. I'll just have to make the most of our wins when they come along & hope the team can start to gell quickly.
I'll give Rob Powell & the team my full support for the upcoming season & hope the rest of "The Usual Suspects" will do the same.
Welcome to the "Roller Coaster Ride That Is Quins R.L."

| How many on here were the full monty on the appointment to their current job? Have you become better at your job?
I can and many others have suggested preferred candidates. However as suggested there is a list of those who have tried and not delivered at other clubs. Are they worth the risk in comparison to Rob? Rember John Monie our marquee Coaching appointment that went well didn't it.Reputation and experience ain't everything.
Doesn't he have an international record that is still in the positive?
Rob has apparently the support of senior players, which most coaches crave. Is Rob with an assistant coach and lets say input from Randall and Purdham any less of a coaching team than some other clubs?
Champions possibly not, but it will be an interesting year but I have not given up on it yet.

| Good luck to the bloke!!!!
we tried a northern coach, who obviously some folk think has what it takes otherwise he would not be head coach at Leeds!
we have tried an Aussie coach, and despite the fact we did actually have some good (ish) seasons and we lambasted him
So why not try a local bloke? If he has the backing of the owner, and then respect of the players then who knows!!!
At least its pretty interesting being a London RL supporter, the last 2 seasons I have gone to games having literally no idea if we would win lose draw be appalling, be wonderful!! Ok mostly appalling last season but hey we turned Wigan over!!!
Would we rather be in the same situation as the Welsh lot? bankrupt!!
At least we are afloat, and trying to stay that way
I have good vibes about this season coming up, top 8 doubtful 9-10th a prediction yes! Bottom NO
The only real worry is where do we get the bums to go on seats from? A couple of good results early on would be good, so lets hope the fixture list is kind to us
Lets try giving the new coach our support and judge him on his results

| Yes things have moved on since the 1980s, then we had a handful of amateur clubs and no schools playing the game. The improvement is down to the work of the likes of Rob Powell and his team! Both Clubby and LMS have come through the present set up,so we are doing a lot better than some of the M62 clubs. Yes, we have our backs to wall, but that is the best way to fight. If we can avoid injuries we can be better. I wonder who will be favourite for the sack Mac or Rob?

I can agree in principle with what you are saying but tactics and training techniques in League as with all sports moves very fast- Rob has worked only under Mac who was inexperienced in his own right. Look at the likes of McGuire and Brown and the difference they have made to their respective clubs in no time at all. Without being funny how will Rob know how to introduce complex defensive patters involving increased numbers in the tackle, roles to play in the tackle, slowing the ruck, dominating the ruck, intensity in defence when he hasn't seen it mastered as a number 2 or 3. And that is only one aspect of the game- health, fitness, rotating staff, attack, tactics to nullify and overcome the opposition................it goes on and on.
I wish him well and hope he makes me eat my words.

| In all our downs! it was good to read Big Mac, the one who is the owner of St Helens and can't do any wrong! saying this must stop the taking of players groomed by Clubs such as Graham if he goes to Australia, rumoured to be sooner rather than later, then how about players from Quins RL to St Helens????
With our club as I said yesterday I will give the new coach every support, but unless we can start to perform on the pitch then we are never going to attract new or old fans back that is plain truth and a fact, regardless of our marketing having sunk to about the bottom in Super League, just think how we used to be at one time and the connection the club had with supporters, David Hughes must see this!

| Everyone`s entitled to their opinion and some are clearly supportive of Rob`s appointment but I am sorry I totally disagree.
There seems to be this blind faith that because he is local everything is going to turn out ok........a similar approach seems to prevail regarding young players coming through the ranks i.e. because they are local they are bound to be up to standard, possess all the correct skills and this will rescue the club in the long term........what utter codswallop.
Many are greeting Rob as though he were new to the club, but he has been here for 4+years and was part of the failed team that delivered us next to nothing on the pitch for the past 18 months or more.......what in heaven`s name makes anyone think that we have suddenly unearthed a genius in the making and he will be capable of turning things around.
One of the criteria cited is that he is a thoroughly nice bloke who has the support of the players..........since when was being a nice bloke guaranteed to deliver results?
Support of the players.......even if there were disappointment in the camp do you think players (some of whom would struggle to get a contract elsewhere) would come out and publically say anything?
It has been mentioned that Rob will work closely with the senior players regards coaching etc............so what`s been appointed here, some sort of coaching co-operative to make up for his inexperience.
Recruitment........like many other clubs we have had our problems with player injuries, but another reason for our dismal performances has been far too many inexperienced players on the pitch at any one time. We have lost quite a few of last year`s team, some of whom were part of our experienced contingent. We have brought in a couple of older heads but it looks as though our recruitment is going to fall well short and we will be once again be dependent on new, inexperienced lads coming through the ranks who will also be at a physical disadvantage to the completion. Is this starting to sound familiar?
The only word that screams at me regarding decisions made is `CHEAP`.
So all in all nothing has changed, in fact it is worse than last year.............but still there are people who think that everything is going to change on the pitch. Let us hope that they still feel the same when we are languishing at the bottom of the table and have been overtaken by the Crusaders despite their points deduction.
Season ticket is bought and I will be in my seat urging the guy`s on, the same as all previous years...........but please do not expect me to be happy about the sorry state of the club.

| There is no reason to suspect Rob won't be a great coach, so he gets my support. You have to start somewhere - as I recall Nathan Brown didn't do any assistant coaching of note before taking over at the Dragons, and he seems to be rated on here.
It's a funny business coaching selection.
Brian Noble gets votes but couldn't do anything with a star studded Wigan side.
Any number of potentially good coaches (e.g. Jimmy Dymock) who have assistant and national side coaching experience don't get a go in the NRL - where it seems the same people go from team to team.
St Helens pick Royce Simmons, which I find quite a strange decision.
Guess we'll see.

2 years coaching reserve grade at the dragons. In his first year won the minor premiership losing only 2 of 22 games. Inherited a team with players like Barratt and Gasnier and laurie daley was a 'consulting coach'.
Comparing a guy who has een assistant to the underwhelming McD with assistants in Oz is silly.

| its quite funny, we knock Mac!! and call him underwhelming!! He is now head coach of one of the big four clubs!! Someone must have thought he was doing the right thing! WITH THE TOOLS HE had available (not calling the players tools!! you know what i mean)
Mr Heatherington has done pretty well over his years in Rugby league so when he got macca from us he obviously did not think he was that bad!!
Good luck to Rob!! youngest in SL and a Brit to boot, i hope he proves all the doubters on here wrong and we have a reasonable season and get some folk back through the gates
