| Im sure we would get 30 quality applications if it was advertised world wide(thats what Catalans got apparently)- There are only 30 (approx) top coaching jobs in the world-NRL, SL and international if you want to include them. Nathan Brown, McGuire were available and have done well. There must be others out there who fancy a crack.

Agreed, we would not be short of responses, and even if Walters gets the spanish archer, there will still be quality coaches available.
It's less a point of "who do the fans want" as that becomes a pointless roll call, it's more a case of who thinks they can improve both our position and our plays and more importantly, who can rebuild what appears to me to be a shattered team with no morale, vision, or confidence to play the sport they love.

| Agree fully with what Homer said, I'd also add that the coach should be improving the players we have and I've watched with disappointment as a number of players (in some cases quite young) have simply plateaued with no signs of improvement from year to year.
Having said that I will now contradict myself and launch into "pointless roll call" I've probably already said, but anyway, Jason Taylor seems like a good candidate.
[1] Has some connections, may be able to make some stop gap signings (and we certainly have quota spots open, whether we have the funds is another thing).
[2] Has proved he can coach, has a better winning percentage than Nathan Brown in the NRL. This is with Parramatta (who were a shambles when he took over, not quite as big a shambles as us, but still) and South Sydney.
[3] Slightly more analytical and technically mined in his approach and will no doubt bring some fresh ideas.
[4] Affable character, good with the media (whilst I don't care so much about this if we are winning) it is important to send out the right messages.
[5] Has something to prove and drive (without going into detail over his departure from the Rabbits, I felt he was harshly treated). He's not one of these coaches whose achieved it all at other clubs and whose reputation will not take a dent if he fails with us.
We'd have to sell the club to him, but if we had the finances (and do we have the finances to wait and do nothing?) don't see why he wouldn't at least consider it. Plenty of coaches have returned from the Super League to good jobs in the NRL. It's a far from a career graveyard.

I'm not at all sure about that. There'd be plenty of interest but I can't imagine any coach who knows what he's about taking on this club in its present financial state. The basic squad might have been competitive if injury-free (as they were in the first half of last season), but there's no depth at all, resulting in the team having to be filled up with too many inexperienced young guys, a poor quality loanee and at least one player (Melling) having to play in a pivotal position for which he's not suited.
Classic poisoned chalice.

| The print edition of 'The Times' today said that the club 'refused to comment' on rumours that BM had been sacked, which seems a litttle ambiguous to yours truly. Even if he has gone, I wouldn't expect to hear anything before tomorrow at the earliest as things like settlement packages and a temporary replacement have to be worked out.

You would have thought it was now untenable that he could actually stay in the position.

Not sure that I would agree with this.............a young 2nd coach would probably love the opportunity, it's a classic win win for him as he will not get any blame attached for not improving results, but in reality and even with the squad we have, the right man with the right motivational skills will make improvements easily and his CV will be all the better as a result.

Let's see. Hope I'm proved wrong.

| If you need any evidence to support Homer's arguement, then think back to the 2004 season, when Rea brought in Rohan Smith as assistant.
Almost overnight we improved our defence both in terms of individual technique and collective organisation. Then within a few weeks we were winning games because we were able to defend a lead and the confidence in the team improved noticeably.
And maybe Smith was telling the players the exact same things Rea was trying telling them. Sometimes it just needs to come from a different voice.

Best news in ages....if the club are refusing to comment then it may be true

| Last year they moved quickly to say his position "wasn't on the radar".
I'd like to see a few more signs though before I get my hopes up.

| So, it would appear, we're still in possession of Brian.
Just when I thought one positive thing had happened this season as well...

| Doesn't neccesarily have to be a current NRL head coach. Michael Maguire doesn't, correct me if i'm wrong, have any experience of a top job in Australia but Wigan have obviously seen something they like.
Anyone but McDermott, frankly.

| In the event of our beloved coach still being around next Saturday there is of course an opportunity to express our feelings in front of the TV cameras.
Altogether now...."We've got the worst coach in Super League..."
