Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently. Rosa Luxemburg, 'Die russiche Revolution'.:Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif

To sum up - it's back to normal, then.

We have been out-enthused in 5 of the last 6 halves of rugby. Pointless telling us what we already know, Joe Grima - fix it. We have a top-4 squad and that is where we should be.

I'm genuinely struggling with this. London were completely out of their depth in SL in 2014 and to a neutral eye seemed to lose many of your better players from last season to other SL clubs and most of your signings for this season were guys who weren't seen as first-grade material elsewhere and looked at best no better than those of many of the more aspirational Championship clubs. I think there's been a general over-estimation of the talent drop-off between lower-tier SL and upper-tier Championship - being a fringe player in a SL squad or NRL 2nd grader doesn't guarantee you'll be a standout in the Championship.

But do we actually have a top four squad in reality?
We have some good individuals, some overaged players with no championship experience and squad members again unproven at championship level, plus a small number with the experience. Being full-time does not mean its a given that we are better than part-time clubs who are proven at this level.
There is a total difference in the line up which played Sheffield two seasons ago and the Eagles drove that home emphatically yesterday.
The truth is the squad is wafer thin.
Older players and inexperienced players = Injuries!! and we have several years ahead finding our level in the Championship.
I'd sooner be here right now than in superleague, out of our depth and getting tonked EverY week.
Here, Broncos will win some, they will lose some, particularly away. The club still has a chance to rebuild, its good to get a reality check this early in the year. Recruitment is certainly difficult but the squad needs strengthening.

I'd be surprised if more than a couple of clubs in the Championship have as many SL/NRL appearances among their squad as ours does. Mathers, Naiqama, Williams, Dwyer, Lovegrove and Harrison are signings who played at a higher level than the Championship last year. Cordoba and Farrar have 100+ NRL appearances each. Slyney was comfortable in SL last year. That's the bulk of a team who have capitulated three times.

Add to that, Hellewell and Garside are established performers at this level; Dollapi and Wallace were establishing themselves in SL, neither getting found out.

Add to that, these fellas are in a full-time environment.

Now, I'm not saying that all these players will be standouts in the Championship but, taken together, they have a better RL pedigree than the Sheffield, Doncaster or Dewsbury teams (Championship mid table?) that they have so far surrendered to, to one degree or another. If these players fail to finish above all of those clubs, I don't think it unreasonable to say that they've failed. As someone else says, these players might "at best (be) no better than those of the more aspirational clubs" - which is all we are expecting!

I won't deny that there is undoubtedly a weakness in our halves - and Keyes/Thomas isn't the answer - but that doesn't explain the points leaked and the softness shown. If the losses had been 10-16, say, there would probably be little concern on these boards so early in the season. The concern is that our team is so readily capable of losing a half by 20-odd points and that the refrain that each defeat is a positive "wake-up call" has worn thin already.

My worry is that Joey admits that Sheffield 'out enthused us' - Isn't it his job to do just that? How long before he admits he can't enthuse the team? His post match interview v Dewsbury said it all to me. I saw that look on TR's face pre-season last year it does not bode well.

Unfortunately the club's culture for the past few season has been one of failure both on and off the pitch and is going to be very difficult to change. The problem in my opinion starts at the top and sadly until this changes then LB as a club will continue to suffer.

If Keyes and Thomas are not the answer change it. Foran or someone else. Saints won the grand final with no halves.
There are no excuses JG front up & stop looking shocked in your interviews. If you haven't got the answers there are people who have.

Get them out on the training pitch and smash enthusiasm into them. It's the least you can expect from a full time pro. For Christ sake sheffields players are back at work today earning a living. They weren't bothered about getting injured yesterday more showing the London 'glory boys' how to play tough
rugby.

You don't see pleasantries on McGuire, Wanes and others faces. More an inner determination to succeed

What we need is an older, experienced and slightly cynical coach who puts the fear of God into both the players and opposition as they think he's the illegitimate spawn of Satan.

No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent.:

Hi,
I come in peace.
I'm a little bit disappointed you are having a go at Joey Grima and the players.( You did give more time to other coaches and your assessment of Brian McDermott has proved to be incorrect.)
Admittedly, teams who travel to longer than usual away games do seem to find an extra camaraderie on the field but in yesterdays game your players were interrupted by the lengthy delays and serious looking injuries to their teammates.
The owner of a Super League club who attracts attention of one of the critics on this forum, and the VT,sacked a coach last year, the highly decorated Brian Noble, who banged on about requiring 'time to gel' about his players;up to and beyond his overdue sacking.
Joey Grima not only requires time for his team of 'new' players to gel but he has the problem of a totally new spine to the side. The hooker, half backs and full back are all new,as is the loose forward, and it will take time for an understanding.
They met a Sheffield side who fired on all cylinders and are confident playing at The Keepmoat.
It's a long season and things change very quickly.
The travel, the weather, the injuries, the newness, lots of variables and the vicissitudes of sport.

Oh,having seen Jamie Soward at The Stoop. Thanks for the memories! icon_thumb.gif Even the relatively new NRL coaching teams and players didn't win as convincingly against Warrington and Wigan as the more settled NRL side, last night.

Keep the faith - If you do lose again - do it at Blackpool icon_biggrin.gifANCE:

Pleased the injured players are not as badly hurt as first feared.

Gelling and enthusiasm are two completely different things.

Moves not coming off I can accept, not competing for kicks I cant?

Not sure our assessment of Mac was wrong. The proof will be in the pudding over the next couple of years as the core players age and need swapping out at Leeds. Man Utd were successful for years centred on a core of players.
