I spoke to a kid with his parents in the stand. First game and loved it. Had his face painted and wants to come back.

I brought a number of newbies and they loved it.

Quote: Tre Cool "Me too, brought bro in law, he'd never seen an RL game before (and I mean never!) footie fan that could never get along with RU and enjoyed it and will be back.

Amusingly he had no idea where st Helens was, also thought it was funny but good that fans of a sports club chanted London. He typifies how hard it is for us as a club but how we definitely have the product if we could just have some success.'"

Yes we need the success so that when we bring a newbie down we don't look like a team of no hope amateurs by being tonked week after week after .....

This season is a great opportunity for us (if injuries don't kill us) to bring new people down. They may not understand the rules but thay will understand that we are as good as the opposition and will always be in with a chance of winning. After a few games their understanding will be better and hopefully they will be hooked and able to weather the odd barren patch even. icon_wink.gif

It's so pleasing to read many Positive comments about supporters yesterday be those who are new! it brings back memories of that first game at Fulham, sat in the stand there were so many families sat around including grand parents and they Loved the game and felt so excited that they could together and just have a good day out.

There must be so many dads out there who would like to take their sons to see live sport and may not like to take them to football and with the prices but make it affordable and a good product and we can bring them in. It is all the youngster who are playing amateur that we need to bring in and get them into seeing stars of Rugby League.

I just can't grasp the Few who feel is it bad to see any fans returning whoever they may be, it is totally beyond me that they can think and feel this way, we have such potential if we get the product right and Anyone is Welcome and we should make them feel that way.

Quote: mickyb1234 "cant believe some of the comments on here!!! it must be micky taking

How can we have a go at folk who have re appeared after a few years not watching the team, Are we now saying our crowd increase can only be NEW supporters, strewth!!!
There are probably folk out there who decided nope I dont want to be asociated with HARLEQUINS but now we are back to Broncos are happy to come back
SO WHAT. The import thing is they have come back, its called bums on seats

Welcome one and all I say, and for those that have come back after a few years off, hope you were pleased with what you saw'"

Afraid we're never going to agree on this (unless you change your mind)

Top-level rugby league died about 6 years ago when we were £3m in debt and folded.
Harlequins saved us and offered us a way to continue playing top-flight RL, and with the exact same team and staff but this time with a ground to call our own- a first in the club's history - and meant we finally had enough money to invest in a proper academy set up - the fruits of which were seen on both teams yesterday.
If it wasn't for Harlequins London would not have taken to the field against Saints and put in a performance which made so many of us proud to be broncos supporters as we would have ceased to be 6 years ago. Harlequins RU will go down in the club's history next to David Hughes as heroes of RL who have kept the sport going in London.
For some fans to rather have RL in the capital die and refused to follow the club while we were called Harlequins is in my opinion disgraceful and small minded.

darth chris
I actually agree with you, i know if we had not had the "help" of the quins we probably would not have been here now competing at the same level

Point is! I dont care why people did not come last year or the year before or the year before
All I really care about is that they come this year and in the future
Does it matter, who they are or what there reasons for not coming in the last 5 years
NO!!!!
so peopel like you me daft dad listy, gooner etc all kept coming through thick and thin
Hurrah for us lets all pat ourselves on the back
Any bum on a seat is a bum on a seat, well dont for those that have chosen to come back, come again please you might enjoy it
And the dedicated fans should be welcoming em back with open arms rather than giving em hard time for not coming last year

I'm indifferent towards them. They are not supporters of Rugby League though and to be honest I have no interest in them and their opinions. They can come and watch games if they want, won't get excited though as they will clear off when the going gets tough or something happens that they don't like.

Interesting how you can confuse supporters of RL with non supporters of QRL, a fair percentage of people stopped going to club games after the first season, probably a lot less to do with the colours and the tie up and more to do with a perception, real or imagined, that the "essence" of what they loved about their club had altered, and a lot of those had been very hard working supporters of the club in real terms. Again a fair percentage of those have gone on to demonstrate their support and love of the game in other areas, some with other clubs and in "virgin" areas.

"Did you enjoy it"
"Yes dad"
"Do you want to come again" (he obviously enjoyed it)
I took my daughter for her first ever game. With about 8 minutes left she was actually crying with cold but I insisted we stay as there were only 4 points in it at that time. icon_lol.gif

On to the game. 5 Saints tries, all 5 through the Broncos' right-hand side defence. Roby and Lomax were lining up aim Melling and Witt time after time. Please, sort out the right centre spot - Colbon was great, Melling was a disaster. Witt has plenty to work on at 3rd man in too.

Positives. The middle unit was very good defensively - lots of aggression from Kaufusi, Krasniqi and Clubb. Kaufusi's error and pens let him down a little. Would like to see Clubb pushed back to 13. Leave the donkey work to the props, Clubb should have licence to play both central *and* slightly wider. Bailey and Rodney were very good on the edges. Having Cook back will increase the backrow options still further. The pack is shaping up into a force to be reckoned with.

Gower is still class. He will set JOC (or whoever plays left centre) up with a lot of tries close to the line.

Robertson looked a play of the highest quality too.

"Part Timer" - "Fickle Supporters" - "No Empathy" - well it is one area were we will have to agree to disagree! as I have no problem with Anyone returns as I said, whatever reason they stopped supporting I will Welcome them back with open arms. I agree that some did go on to support RL in other ways, but it was just not because of the Quins association, but that is in the past and finished with I just want all those who came for the first time Saturday or returned to come back regular.

Loads of positives and promise from the game (much of which has already been mentioned) so I do not feel down hearted.
Powell needs to sort Dorn out. He looks out of place and out of sorts at full back. He seems to be considerably slower than last year and his defence is awful, clueless and consists of flapping his arms around like a big girls blouse. That pass across the face of the posts on our own line was ridiculous. Might be better to give Dixon a go who has loads of pace, good footwork and was looking for work.

Agreed. Was pleasantly surprised with Colbon at centre - perhaps a solution to that thorny issue! Melling looked hopeless though. Hard to believe he was an England player not all that long ago.

Fair post, somewhat idealistic to me and of course neither of us have any evidence to support our claims other than that of the anecdotal variety. But even if people gave up after a year, that still stinks to me, especially for the reasons you give. People need to come to terms with the fact that this isn't a community club like it was and never will be again. I want the club to provide 80 minutes of professional rugby league a week and people were prepared to jeopardise this for selfish and trivial reasons.
