| A lot of Quins RU supporters ARE interested in ourselves and do want us to succeed. I hope it works.

| Quote: SteveQuin "So why don't you ring Mark Evans and tell him not to bother as you don't think it's a good idea.
There's probably a higher number of union supporters at RL matches than vice versa.
Surely anything that may get more people through the gates is worth pushing.
There's a marketing group of 6000+ union season ticket holders - if this brings in an additional 100 from that group, it's achieved its purpose.
100! Just 100! If that's all its gonna achieve then yes I might just give Mark Evans a call! I'm sorry but this whole business of the RU hordes coming across to us is the myth we were sold when we became QRL! What is this, some kind of 'If you build it they will come' Kevin Costner movie? I'm not knocking ANY initiative that will get more bums on seats for us and if a cheap ticket gets a few RU fans to give us a try all well and good - but we need more like another 1000 and with the indifference shown so far (I think the row upon row of empty seats shows that!) by the RU fans I'm don't think this will give the breakthrough we need numbers wise, hence the 'scuse my cynicism ' comment in the original post.
What if the club did this offer for players /volunteers/ supporters of RL clubs throughout the South /Southeast? What about putting on a few subsidised coaches to ferry people from the clubs in Kent ,Essex, Herts where there already is an RL following to and from home games? What about seeing a few of the posters advertising the 'Summer at the Stoop' on buses, trains, tube? There is a massive market in London of sports fans most of whom don't even know we exist! How will they if the club don't advertise? I know there are cost implications but I was always under the impression that the most successful companies DON'T cut back on advertiseing during a downturn so as to keep their profile high. The club needs to tap into this market significantly and fast as that next franchise round will come round all too soon! Harlequins RU fans HAVE known about us for the past few seasons and (although I'm sure the exceptions are poised by their keyboards to shoot me down in flames!) they have ignored us almost to a man or woman!
If Mark Evans initiative works then great but if only 100 is seen as good then I think he really has wasted his time. I would like nothing more than to see the Stoop regularly 50-75% full but we need knocking on for another 3000 for that.If he manages that by doing this then I'll eat my hat - and then I'll start moaning on here about the sun getting in my eyes on matchdays!
PS anyone have any idea of the numbers of dual season ticket holders / regulars at the Stoop? Just curious in case I've misjudged things

Who told you there would be hordes of union supporters?
Why would you think that the majority of union supporters would want to watch league?
How many Quins RL supporters went to watch the union side before the change from Broncos and how many go now?
Unfortunately, the impetus was lost in the first season - in the first few home games - largely because the team was poor. I've been coming since then but most stopped. I'm sure if you check attendances from the first season at The Stoop to this season, they are lower.
If a no cost marketing exercise - using an established free database brings in more supporters it has achieved its purpose.
Regarding dual season ticket holders - I know about 10 (myself included) and probably 40 - 50 semi regular attendees dependant upon othe things going on, but it isn't their main sport.

I agree with you about the first season, had we beat St Helens on the opening day in front of ,what was it about 8,000?, and sustained that momentum who knows? My own feeling is that targeting a group that by and large hasn't gone for RL in a big way isn't going to make a lot of difference. I think the club has to use a number of strategies including locally (ie within a 5 mile radius), London wide and with RL clubs within the South/ Southeast. If Mark Evans can get a significant interest ie 400-500 minimum via this promotion then fair enough, but I just don't see it unfortunately.

| Here's a thought
Hire a big field/park
Get one of those little travelling Fairs on it
get stalls and competitions going
have a kids mini rugby tournament going
Get the whole team down there selling/promoting themselves and the club
advertise at least 3 months before the event
try and get the local rags down possibly even a BBC or SKY camera too
you get kids nagging to go then the parents are involved
Get Buck and Dusty doing the rounds
Get something going for the adults, the little kids and the the teenagers in one big open celebration

Like your thinking. The only thing I would say is why hire a field when there is the Pitch beside the stoop that could accomodate a fair, or even the pitches at the back. Fair sets up on Thursday, runs Friday to Sunday night and coincides with a Sunday 3pm KO with beer festival, live band after the game, petting zoo, BBQ and a kids tag tourny.....and a "name" for the half time entertainment.
Doubt you would get TV or Radio down, but the local rags would be up for it.
One last thing......organise it for a fixture we have a chance of getting a result in. Avoid Saints and Leeds like the plague, because a newbie won't come back after a thumping.......
