| Its the prospect of actually having to go to Gillingham that winds me up the most, not the distance or cost. The place is a dump with absolutely nothing going for it. At least other suggested locations and our current home are in areas with lots of other things to do surrounding the match itself.
What player in their right mind would want to up sticks to Medway? I can't see too many marquee Australians fancying it. Living in South West London is probably one of the only plus points of signing for us.

Hard to argue with that!
And I made this point before, the RFL wanted Medway to move into Champ 1 but they said no for the time being. Why would they want 2 of their 35 odd teams playing in the same town? If it's a city you can get away with it, but Gillingham? Just no!

1649_1338292262.jpg I have followed the LONDON CLUB since I was in my teensl even though born in St Helens and still live nearby and went to the first game at Fulham, also Big West Ham Supporter:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_1649.jpg |

Gillingham would end my support of the club. I'm a Londoner, I've always lived within a few miles of Central London, I've got no wish to support a club based in the middle of Kent, or to travel to Kent to watch matches. I like watching Superleague rugby, and whilst Gillingham would still be the nearest place I can do so if we go there, frankly I'd rather book a few cheap train journeys a year to places like Wigan, Warrington, Wakefield etc, all of whom play within walking distance of train stations with direct services out of Euston/King's X, as well as lending my support to Skolars too.'"
GF started the thread title with Gillingham? why I am uncertain, except it could be he knew quite well how it will really light the Blue Touch Paper, No One has said it is Gillingham and I agree it would be sad as no way could a club based there be London, I supported and helped with Kent Invicta but that was plain to see never worked.
Yes we have moved around far too much, changed our name, but whatever I have stood firm, I hated Crusaders and the silly badge was even worse, why did the Daily Express not sponsor us. It became clear when discussions with our landlords seemed to go on & on that we were not going to agree. So now is the time to move, the ideal world would be our own stadium which can be built as part of the community used every day of the week, be a base, but how could we find that money, this is what the RFL should have done at the very start or at least when we left Fulham, it would have been an investment could have been a centre of excellence for rugby league in the south. But if we have to move perhaps now is the best time as we are at an all time low, if the move was on the cards was it wise to spend a fortune on marketing? it would have been money down the drain.
We have come back with some good wins this last month since Tony took over the team is looking good, now is the time to build, the ground has to be the right one and the marketing budget has to be right! but we are all just speculating until we know more facts and all the facts!

No ones said the training and housing are moving to Gillingham. Maybe the club are happy with both of these and would coach the players to Kent/ Leyton/ another only on matchdays.
Regards moving east until the new Brentford stadiums built, it may well appear stupid but in reality money talks and unless theres funds to build our own ground or your willing to pay an increased rent then yes we may well be nomads a while longer and possibly moving east. Problem we have as fans is were not privy to who wants how much and for how long. Im sure Brentford would have been considered before now by the club?

| These rumours of a move away from The Stoop are deeply disturbing first and foremost because the existing venues being mooted as our new home are markedly inferior in almost all respects. The Stoop tenancy has been one of the saving graces of a club that has gone backwards for many years, giving up one of our few strengths would suggest we are now running on fumes.

| What would the future be if DH decided not to bank roll the club? Maybe behind the rumours there is a long term plan to secure the future of a SL club in the South. What is clear is that the existing crowd numbers at the Stoop are not high enough to cover the costs of running a SL club and either Broncos invest heavily on marketing to improve attendances (at the Stoop) or go out of business in their current form. In the long term DH is not going to be around to keep paying the bills.

We need to know more, but if the plan is to move to an inferior ground elsewhere then it suggests long term SL survival is no longer tenable and we're looking to put ourselves on firm footing for the lower leagues. SL has minimum standards and we need to renew our license in 2 years time.

| A move from the Stoop would lose 3 more season ticket holders here as well. Would probably do the odd game but too far from
Guildford with the kids.
I still don't feel we've given the Stoop a chance. A year or two of performances like we've had recently and I'm conviced we'd be up at 5-6k plus.
C'mon David/Gus - give the new coach at least one more season at the Stoop.

| Gillingham would get the thumbs down from me too and I've been a regular home supporter since day one. Having stuck with the club in its various guises for so long I am loathe to stop following them regularly but can't see myself traveling to Kent for more than a handful of games. Let's hope the original newspaper story is bulls**t. It wouldn't be the first time that rag has printed lies after all.

No he didn't.
Quote: jaybs "No One has said it is Gillingham and I agree it would be sad as no way could a club based there be London, I supported and helped with Kent Invicta but that was plain to see never worked.'"
Yes they have, and people on here have quoted the sources. The information may (hopefully) be inaccurate, but nevertheless it is out there and people have clearly stated where they heard it.
Quote: jaybs "Yes we have moved around far too much, changed our name, but whatever I have stood firm, I hated Crusaders and the silly badge was even worse, why did the Daily Express not sponsor us. Why? Why is now the time to move? (To somewhere that won't be Gillingham, but will be somewhere else in or near London, although we don't actually know where, just anywhere except The Stoop, because that's a union ground in union heartland, and some people seem to think this whole nomadic existence is some sort of big adventure and an opportunity to reinforce their loyalty credentials by continuing to follow the club somewhere different.) We've already moved far too much, and it sounds like going around in circles and repeating our mistakes to me.
Quote: jaybs "We have come back with some good wins this last month since Tony took over the team is looking good, now is the time to build, the ground has to be the right one and the marketing budget has to be right!'"
Personally I'd say the ground is the right one. (That's the ground we're already playing at.) Unless an absolutely fantastic opportunity arises to play somewhere else that ticks all the boxes: that's modern, comfortable, good corporate facilities, sensible size, within Greater London (preferably to the southwest of Central London where the club has spent most of its existence and where its roots are) and with good public transport and road links.
We need to be at the best possible ground that offers the best value, not the one that offers the cheapest rent; that's not the same thing. There's little point in moving to a cheap ground in a cheap town if we're going to haemorrhage support and have to pretty much start from scratch in terms of pulling in supporters. Crusaders did that when they went to Wrexham and look what happened to them.
I'm still not convined we have a long term future once the benevolence of David Hughes is taken out of the equation, but moving to yet another new location and crossing our fingers that it all works out is not the way to go for me.

| I'm hoping that all this talk of other grounds is a smokescreen so that Quins reduce the rent on the ground. Whatever we pay now, they'll miss that next year if we move
