| Quote: Dave Lister "Good for you. Rugby League is my number 1 priority and 15.00 kickoffs on a Saturday are great for me. I wouldn't expect to be accommodated if I decided that football is more important. What sort of logic is that?'"
Don't get me wrong here, personally i don't do football just trying to play devils advocate
Some people like both sports and having it at 3 on a Saturday which is traditionally football territory, to me is commercial suicide seeing as Football is the No.1 sport in the world

| Think you'll find more people in London watching football on tv than at games at 3pm on a sat. Skys main game is sunday4pm. Intentionally Going head to head with that on a regular basis is just plain stupid.

Sadly this is not the case because one of the other things I am involved in through the summer is the running of 10 charity BBQ's which raise and have done for the last 10 years. So with respect you have no bleedin idea or right tell me what I should and should not be doing. So I choose to fund raise on those Saturdays I have to myself in the summer.
No doubt you will criticise me for daring to put charity fund raising before Rl as well
If Rl was on a Sunday I would be there. I pose the question of how many more would be in the same boat that is all'" why do you hold the bbqs on saturdays?

| Here is another angle. RL for the last 14 years has been my number one sport. I was very involed with my local non league football team (which along with about another 20 non league local clubs is not mentioned on the football list) Due to the timing of matches I opted for RL however there are a number of supporters at the football club who chose football. This is their right as we all have options and preferences. How about we have Sunday games whilst the RU and Football season are in progress and Saturday games during mid season. This should accommodate football and rugby union fans on a Saturday at the beginning and end of the season. It also means mid season Saturday is the day Dad takes the kids out (or lads day out) while Mum/ girlfriend/partner does her own thing (or comes along as well) this leaves leaves Sunday free for a day out or free time to spend with friends and family. It would also be useful to sell half season tickets for either Saturday or Sunday so fans can still benefit from discounted season tickets. Why can't we have a dedicated family / community stand behind the sticks where people are free to sit where they wish. Surely anything is worth trying in an aid to put bums on seats and keep them there. Problem solved...................

So all the northern SL clubs (with bigger attendances than us) must be stupid then?
The bottom line is that 3pm Saturday kick offs suit the hardcore who prioritise RL over anything else, but probably not too many others, and that won't help grow our crowds. I don't think many people minded to get out and watch live sport would prefer to just sit in a pub on a Sunday afternoon watching Bolton v Portsmouth or some such on Sky TV.

Spot on Brian. If you ask the Quins RL supporters you will find a good half who actively support either a soccer club or an RU club. Pure QRL fans are hard to find, even I have commitments at the Skolars. More importantly their many fans of other sports who would come if it did not clash with soccer and RU. That is why SL plays in the summer. When we get bumper crowds the London contingent consist largely of soccer fans. I look forward to the day when QRL is the first priority but it is a long way off, our hard core is quite small. Your solution is neat.

How many Big SL clubs play on Sundays?
How many big sl clubs are in big metropolitan cities with a mix for people from all over the world supporting a vast range of teams rather than their local club?

You make comparisons to Big SL clubs that are not relevent. They play Friday nights, something that would never work for us. Our situation is unique.
Saturdays are best, regardless of the stay-aways who prefer watching soccer.

| Harlequins Rugby League has about appx 1,300 supporters who attend (nearly)every home game (maybe not tonight...thus the nearly).
So, where do we find the 11,000 we need to fill the ground?
Firstly, on our own doorstep there is a population of nearly 200,000 (est figure 200icon_cool.gif, so we really shouldn't look to far afield to start with.
Our shirt sponsor states that it has 3,033 full time students with another 590 odd part timers.
Target 1: The students of St Mary's. Cost....minimal if any
There are over 4,500 16-18 yr olds studying at Richmond UT College. Do we market the games to them?
Target 2: The Students of RUTC. Cost....Minimal if any
The residents of the borough. The R&T Times has a circ of 34k, with 24k of these letterboxed. It is great that we get exposure, but it is a murmer as opposed to a shout. We need to find another route to market.
The borough themselves publish Arcadia Magazine, that is letterboxed to all 80,000 homes in the borough 6 times a year. 1 page in this publication has a book price of £1,400.......now, that would seem to be a bit of a bargain?
Target 3: Locals...cost...between £1,000 and £1,400 to reach everyone.
The Businesses in the Borough. AFAIK, Quins are members of the local Chamber of commerce.........er....HELLO!!!!!!!We will never sell boxes to the same people who have them for Union...Deutch Royal Halifax Barclays Ltd just aren't interested, but a local business may well be.
Target 4: Local Businesses........cost...free if we leverage Quins membership
So, there are 4 routes to market with little or no expense to the club giving exposure to in excess 200,000 people and most businesses in the borough......

Your ideas on marketing seem much better thought through than the ones you have on betting
