I hope the coach spares us such quotes next season.

Whilst I would not expect a club spokesman to claim we could struggle
such ludicrous statements does us no favours at all.

Lets perhaps hear we could make the playoffs but best leave it at that.

The very fact that we could still technically make the playoffs shows
just how the current system could very well reward clubs who are not even
worthy of a mediocre tag.

I got no prob with the team wanting to win the league. Why else are they playing. Equally where was the poster asking for the quote when we were 10-5?

I see where you are coming from but there is a difference between wanting to win it and having a realistic chance of doing so.

Which is why I repeated the question to him. Sorry, but we were never going to win SL with the Squad we had and to say something like " we are aiming for our first ever home play-off game" would have been more plausible.

I have followed the LONDON CLUB since I was in my teensl even though born in St Helens and still live nearby and went to the first game at Fulham, also Big West Ham Supporter:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_1649.jpg

It is not the wish to win the League or the play-offs that concerns me, it is some of the weekly comments made at press conferences!! PR and I wonder man management do not seem to be what Brian is the best at.

Agreed, I would be out of the door without my feet touching the ground if I told my VP that I didn't know or understand the reasons as to why my team were not performing.

LIKE SOME OF THESE......?

CASTLEFORD:
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott:
"I'm disappointed. I wouldn't single out any part of the game, we just weren't in the races.

"We started to do things we wouldn't normally do, such as missing tackles.

"I don't know what's gone wrong. It's not injuries or suspension. We've got a group of people who care about rugby league in London - we haven't got blokes who don't care.

"I've been looking at myself every time we lose - we work very hard. Things aren't wrong in the camp, but they're wrong on the field."

HULL FC:
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott:

"I just said to them that while ever they've got that inner steel about them, we're in good nick. We're not the smartest team but as a group of people we're pretty strong.

"I think our form was more of a concern. I don't see that as a chance missed, our play-off chances started crumbling three, four, five weeks ago.

"Momentum is a funny thing. We started to lose a bit when we had some injuries. Just as they start coming back we don't seem to have the momentum."

SALFORD:
Quins coach Brian McDermott:
"Once again we did not play well. I do not think we have a chance of making the play-offs, certainly not playing like that.

"There was a lot of poor decision-making out there, and that is a real problem.

"We had a side out there today good enough to beat Salford - and we should have beaten them. But there were some dumb decisions made, and that cost us."

BRADFORD:
We will not make the play-offs if we play like that again, and quite frankly we will not deserve to make the play-offs playing like that.

"I am extremely concerned that we have a group of players who went out there and looked like they had never played together before.

"I am frustrated with myself as much as the players. There are questions that need to be asked about everyone at the club - myself included."

BRADFORD (we won this one)
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott:
"It was a tight game and that was one you would have been relieved to win anyway, and not just because of the last six weeks.

"It has been a bit of an odd review in the last six weeks. We haven't been too down on what we have been producing.

"I have found it hard to stand in front of the players and say, 'You've done this wrong, that wrong and you're not up to it'. I couldn't do that because it would have been a lie.

"But there were things we haven't been doing well and we've been missing some men. This keeps things rolling a little bit but we have still got five games to go."

ST HELENS:
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott:

"I am still 100% confident that we will make the play-offs. The players are a very strong group and there is no problem with the attitude.

"There are plenty of things that we are not doing right but everyone is working hard.

"But we will be getting players like Chad Randall and David Howell back next week so there is no need to panic."

HUDDERSFIELD:
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott:
"I thought we were absolutely terrible.

"As an attacking force we were a bit of a joke and even after putting ourselves in a position to win the game we came up with a load of rubbish.

"We have some real problems at the moment, and I do not know what the answer is."

WIGAN:
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott:
"We did start slowly and then David Howell getting sent off didn't help.

"In the second half I thought we were very brave and carried on playing.

"It sometimes hurt us playing because we lost the ball but I would rather do that than go into damage control. I didn't think we did that."

WAKEFIELD:
Wakefield-born Quins coach Brian McDermott:
"This is no more disappointing than any other loss.

"I didn't think we were on course to win it and I didn't think we played well.

"We didn't play well in the first half although we got it back together a little bit in the second half."

Makes for a good comedy script, nowt else though, and again I would be a Goverment artist if I came out with that drivel.

I think the worst part is that unlike all previous close seasons that I can remember, this one is being clouded by the thought that nothing is likely to change from now till February and it's damn hard as supporters to see what is likely to cause change and get excited about [as we all do close season]

To be honest not really, or the Monie days, as we were in season on both of those and you kinda got a light at the end of the tunnel feeling, whereas now ? icon_cry.gif

I don't know what to think, at times out there yesterday it looked like they were playing against each other not against Cass. To make it worse 2 Australian guys who had never been before were sat behind me and splitting their sides at some of our so called moves.

I hope BM, or a new coach, will say that he expects us to win the comp in 2010.

Back onto the original question....I have found rlthisrl on the BBC site...quoting the we will win it line.....

Both Quins coach Brian McDermott and Robins boss Justin Morgan say their aim is to win Super League XIV. A terrific aim to have, but it won't happen.

When big Mac told me of his goal, I asked if that was his message to the players. "No," he said. "That's the message they've conveyed to me." I like Mac, and his talk is refreshing. It's clearly a case of aiming for the moon and hoping to land among the stars.

Captain Rob Purdham reckons this is the best squad he's been part of at Quins. I can't wait to see Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook's development after four months out last year while, with Henry Paul, Scotty Hill and Mark McLinden all going, the return of Luke Dorn is massive.

Although they won't fulfil Mac's goal to win the competition, they should be a play-off certainty.

....bit in bold just for Listy icon_cool.gif
